Summary: Mind of our Time
Review: Jurgen Habermas's brand of philosophy is quite simply the 'best blend' of modern 'continental' thinking (including a more 'reasonable' integration of the postmodernist critiques of reason as practiced by Derrida and company), synthesized and distilled by this tour de force mind. It's unfortunate that JH's work has not caught on more in the USA, but then, he is stronger on substance (i.e.; useful to positive social praxis) than style or attitude (ala Derrida, though not to dismiss the importance of style). In this volume Howe does impressive work with the difficult job of describing the most contemporarily relevant features and most penetrating social insights from JH's voluminous array of works. Read this book to understand what is at stake in our post-modern crisis!
