Rating: Summary: Learning to Pray Review: I enjoyed this book. Madame Guyon (1648-1717) describes a "short and very easy mehod of prayer; which all can practice with the greatest facility, and arrive in a short time, by its means, at a high degree of perfection." She talks directly to the reader in a patient voice. The beginning of the book is for people who are just starting out to pray. From that part, I learned about "praying the scripture", which involves reading carefully. Finally, the book ends with what Madame Guyon calls the "ultimate stage of Christian experience. Divine Union" If you are interested in learning to pray, this is an interesting book for you.
Rating: Summary: God's Providence Defined Review: I first read Jeanne's autobiography about 2 years ago. I've never read any book other then the Bible itself that had such an effect on my understanding of each days circumstances and how God brings many pleasant as well as unpleasant people and events into our lives for the purpose of making us like His Son, Jesus. Jeanne, through God's Spirit, helped give me a new revelation on Romans 8:28, Proverbs 3:5,6 and Psalms 37:23, all speaking of Providence. God is at work in my life setting me apart for His purpose and making me Holy. I thank Him for this book. Madame Guyon could relate to the Apostle Paul when he says in 2 Corinthians 12:10, "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distreses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." If you truly want to be God's and His only, you must read your Bible and this book will help bring you to agree, "Christ in us" can be a reality.
Rating: Summary: Basic christian living! Review: I've read this book and am now going through it out-lining each chapter. Jeanne Guyon gets back to the basics of Christ Jesus living in us and through us to make a difference for us. She is very much like Paul in her thinking as in this book she points out again and again that the works of our flesh count for nothing. But, what does count is Christ Jesus living in us and loving through us. She is also careful to point out certain points of growth that all christians must go through, such as an initial time of feeling God's presence and dry times.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book on the Christian life, Review: It is the most awsome book I've ever read, besides the bible. It will give you knowledge of the Christ that lives within us as Christians, it is very exciting, but very deep. It is profound!
Rating: Summary: Wow my father read it more than 4 times!! Review: My father really loves this book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know Jesus better. I read it myself and love it. It is one of the best christian books out there. Do yourself a favor. Get it!
Rating: Summary: Transformative Review: This book has had a more practical and immediate transformative effect on my walk than any other I have read. The first twenty pages alone are worth the price of purchase. Two types of prayer are offered-- "Praying the Scriptures" and "Beholding the Lord"-- that allowed me to move from a "head" understanding of God towards a much better "heart" understanding. My quiet times have been transformed from a laundry list of my requests for God into a genuine opportunity to abide in his presence. (John 15:4-8)
Rating: Summary: The Most Important Book Ever Written Review: This is with out a doubt the most important piece of literature ever written. It should be required reading for every Christian. Mde. Guyon deals with subjects such as abondonment, suffering, dry times. if you will consider her insights on these and other topics this book will bring you higher heights and deeper depths. You must read this book.
Rating: Summary: Experiencing the Depts of Jesus Christ Review: Without doubt the most important book I've read. Madame Guyon has reached depths in Christ which we cannot understand without having gone there ourselves. This book will inspire all to go deeper in there walk, no matter where they find themselves. A must read for every Christian. Truly a classic. Most important piece of literature from any century. I will reread many times.
