Summary: The best kind of history book
Review: This is such a great book about frontier life by a real frontier woman. Her life was amazing. You get such a real sense of what life was like back then told, first had, not by someone else recounting Martha Black's thoughts, but her real words (I love the words of that time!) about her experiences, triumphs and tragedies. If you ever wanted to know what it was like for a middle class white women of independent mind to live in the late 1800's and the early half of the 1900's, both in the US and Canada, then this is the read for you.
