Summary: A Fascinating Tale of an Astounding Woman
Review: France Wright was an amazing, unconventional woman who actively pursued abolitionism, class and racial equality, and woman's rights at a time when few women dared to venture into the public realm. Though she is often neglected by history, she was infamous in her own time and her forward-thinking ideas were not fully realized until the 1960s.

Celia Morris has spun a delightful tale of this maverick activist and supports it with a wealth of thorough research and critical analysis. She fleshes out her portrait of Wright with a bit of psychoanalysis, suggesting that Wright may have been manic-depressive. I am currently writing a thesis on this incredible woman, and Celia Morris's Fanny Wright has been an invaluable bible for my research. I highly recommend that everyone take the time to discover this oft forgotten but undoubtedly fascinating woman.
