Rating: Summary: Looking Rich Versus Being Rich Review: This book says what a lot of people who want to be rich just don't want to hear. Like, spend less than you earn. Live in a smaller house. When you get a raise, don't buy a boat -- buy a rental property. Get a slipcover for your old couch instead of spending 1000 for a new one and buy some (carefully chosen) mutual funds or stocks with that money. And most of all, don't rob Peter to pay Paul - don't use credit to live a lifestyle you can't afford. It challenges what the poor and middle classes have been taught - that looking rich was the same as being rich. Trying to 'look' rich, the author says, encourages people to spend all of their income on items that depreciate in value (cars, TV's, stereos, hot tubs, designer clothes) rather than buying things that will appreciate in value (mutual funds, property, and stocks.) If you have a new car but no money saved for retirement -- this book is for you! Maybe the bad reviews are caused by the frustration that there is no get rich quick advice in this book -- the truth is it takes discipline, commitment, time, and self-control to build wealth. But, for those willing to listen, this book leads a way out of the month-to-month grind, regardless if you make 18,000 a year or 100,000. This book reminds the reader that it's not what you MAKE, it's what you SAVE that determines if you will be rich or poor. In addition to this book, I'd also suggest two other fabulous books on building wealth -- "Think and Grow Rich" and "The Millionaire Next Door."
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: ...This is a great book, not so much a great read, but the idealogy and lessons are perfect. My wife even read it and loved it. Part of it is in a story format relating to his life experiences which she loved and the rest is in a straight forward informative format which i like. This book should be a mandatory purchase as you can learn alot from it and use it in your every day life. I highly recommend buying this book, Cashflow Quadrant, Guide to Investing, and Rich Kid, Smart Kid. I have read them all in that order. They are also know as Rich Dad 1 through 4. They seem to gel together as one big book split into 4. Buy them all, you won't regret The books make perfect sense.
Rating: Summary: One thing to read - Another to follow. Review: There are a number of points in this book that are interesting, but a major aspect is overlooked. The fact that a number of Americans simply don't have the luxury of following the hints and advice that are contained in here. A large percentage of America is comprised of people who are barely making ends meet. These people don't have the ability to put money away, in any form, for a chance to make it big. The reasons are numerous, but the biggest problem is that they aren't afforded the chance to advance or get into something that would allow it. Take, for example, the veteran. Here is a person who has accumulated a vast amount of experience in a career path - let's say management. A veteran with 7 years personnel management in the army is not considered management material by very many places at all. And, if this person never had the time or opportunity to obtain a degree, they are stuck in a rut that will not allow them a way out. They apply for positions which they should be qualified for, because of their experience, only to be told that they don't have the proper education. When they try for a lower position that doesn't require the education, they are told that they're overqualified. As I said, there are a number of valid points presented in this book. However, they are points which can only be used by a small percentage of people who can afford the opportunity to take advantage of them, and not the vast numbers who need the chance to get ahead.
Rating: Summary: A wake up call Review: Altough the book over simplifies a few things on personal financing, and also makes a big effort on selling a few other Kiyosaki's products (the infomercial feel of the book mentioned on a prior review) it does make an easy and fast read, and it achieves its purpose both for Kiyosaki, makeing a profit, and for the reader, to whom it serves as a wake up call, it does a good job motivating readers into takeing an active hand on their finances and financial future giving a good amount of pointers as to how to do it.
Rating: Summary: Anyone looking for a financial vision should read this book. Review: I just finished reading Rich Dad Poor Dad for the 3rd time. I always find myself coming back to this book when the going gets tough and I need to stay with my financial plan. How many folks out there lately couldn't use a confidence boost these days? If you are looking for specific methods and processes to make money don't buy the book. However, if you are looking to understand the philosophy of investing successfully then this book is worth it's weight in gold. I have never been truly inspired by a book but I am ALWAYS inspired when I read this one. If I could give it 10 stars I would and as I write this review I am buying it for 2 of my friends as gifts.
Rating: Summary: Inspiration writing book, but not easy to follow. Review: I found the author is a very good seller. He wrote the book with pretty interesting tone...(He also mentioned why he choose the title "Rich Dad, Poor Dad...". He said it will get people's attention, which confirm that he's a good seller.). However, the content is quite far from realistic. Not many people can success like him. The story is too "in dream". But if you're bored about life, it's ok to read this book. Overall, I rate this book 3 stars.
Rating: Summary: Finally!! Review: Alas!! Finally, a book that expressed in simple and understandable words the evident: our children won't be able to survive these technological and sociological changes without the guidance of well-informed parents. Our education system has proven to be obsolete once and once again. Mr. Robert T. Kiyosaki nailed it!! Just as it is important to talk to our kids about drugs (or the streets will), it is vital to advice them financially (or the bankers and credit cards will). Finally, I have a structured instrument of learning the arid financial lingo that also helps me to pass it on to my children. An absolute must!
Rating: Summary: This book will change your thinking about money! Review: I read this book and most of the other books from him... They are all awesome! They are written in easy to undestand style and help you understand the true concepts of real wealth and passive income. Unlike so many Get Rich type books this book will not tell you to save every nickle and recycle plastic bags... It teaches you how to see ideas all around you and opens your eyes to make a real change! Since buying this book I have purchased 2 income propertys that are netting me a extra [...]a month (Passive income)and I have restructured our buisness.. It has also helped my put these same Ideas to my children and I have now stopped giving my kids allowance and they both (on there own) figured out buisness to earn income! My son is 14 and is now selling Glow stick necklaces both wholesale (passive inclome as you will understad in the book) and direct! He started this after me making him read the book! If you buy 1 self help book this year buy Rich Dad... His thinking style is quite diffrent from all the Get rich authors!
Rating: Summary: Pity its only for yanks Review: Excellent motivator! I read 'Cashflow Quadrant' (same author) and instead of spending money on alcohol and 'doodads' I started investing and saving money for my own home. Rich Dad Poor Dad is more of the same. Unfortunately, the information it provides on commerce, finance and investment is based on the system in the USA, which has not yet been instituted in the rest of the world (whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is beside the point...) Many of the ways that R. Kiyosaki suggests that a person can make money is not viable in many parts of the world, and only the general idea is relevant. If this were not so, if R. Kiyosaki wrote for a global community, then this book would have gotten five stars without a question.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful book!! Review: This book generally makes you think: Self-Education or University degrees??? What can I do to become wealthy??? These are the sort of questions answered in this awesome book by Robert Kiyosaki. This book is especially for those whom have no idea about money and how it works. Its depth as far as ocean deep. It's easily read and eloquent. Read it now Period.
