As though I'd known Doug Jones for years and had heard him tell me these stories over coffee at my kitchen table. The recipes are a little involved, complicated and ambitious for an unadventurous cook as myself, but the stories were hysterically funny and I learned alot about some very wierd vegetables. I liked the picture of Doug on the back. He's a handsome guy. He should have his own TV show.
Rating: Summary: Skip recollections, restaurant recipies passable. Review: As an avid amateur chef and organic food aficionado, I was drawn to this book. However, the recipe collection as a whole seems too random. The restaurant recipes Jones chose look intriguing, but seem far too sophisticated for the amateur chef for whom this book is trying to appeal to. Aside from the occasional humorous anecdote, Jones' recollections aren't funny enough to make the pedestrian recipes any more appetizing. To that point, the juvenile sketches were distracting in this otherwise beautifully designed book.
Rating: Summary: Hilariously funny; hope there's a novel soon. Review: Great short stories to read in your spare time. I read the first Chapter on "Copper Farming" aloud to my friends and I cried twice from laughing. You can't help but love Jones-- there is a little of him in all of us. Only one problem, I am dying to know what little snack Jones had in his pocket in "Deer Hunting in Suburbia." Imus book award? I think yes!

Rating: Summary: This guy is hysterical and doesn't even know it! Review: PLEASE PLEASE somebody make a movie out of this book! I want to know what happened to him after the wire debacle! I can't find any other books by the guy. Is this a first book? Why isn't it a best seller? anyone? anyone?
Rating: Summary: good recipes. great sense of humor! Review: This is a sweet, and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny book. Jones comes across as knowledgeable about food without sounding fussy. He tells a good story, with interesting characters. The drawings, though, don't really add to the design much... maybe more photos next time. Good for men who like to cook, by the way
