Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Generic guidelines supporting ITIL
Review: This is one of the more general books in the official ITIL series. It is more a generic framework that addresses specific infrastructure areas than a collection of key processes. Areas covered include:

- Network Service Management
- Operations Management
- Management of Local Processors
- Computer Installation and Acceptance
- Systems Management

Most of the above areas tie directly to ITIL process areas that are detailed in the Service Support and Service Delivery guides in the series. For example, there are direct ties to computer installation and acceptance, and the configuration, change and release management processes in Service Support. Another example is the alignment of network service management to key processes detailed in the Service Delivery guide.

If you are pursuing ITIL certification this is the official guide covering infrastructure and is a recommended resource for passing the exam. A related book that augments (but will not supplant) this one, and one I highly recommend, is "Impacting Business: A Simple Model of IT Management" (ISBN 0972983163). The infrastructure management approach given in that book is a viable and consistent method that will fit within the official guidelines.
