Summary: Excellent choice for the serious TA student!
Review: I found the book (Technical Analysis Explained) to be extremely helpful in my study of this fascinating subject. I can understand why Technical Analysis Explained is one of two books on the recommended reading list for the Certified Market Technicians Course. Pring has the knack of making what could be a dull subject interesting. This is the kind of detailed background needed to properly watch both the market and specific stocks. The charting techniques presented give the investor and trader far greater insight into future probable price trends and will significantly increase their rate of return.

Summary: Glad I Bought It!
Review: I was first attracted to this book at my local library, so I checked it out. I had intended on merely reading selected chapters and taking some notes. However, as I got into the book, I realized there was much more meat here. There MUST be a copy on my personal bookshelf. I quickly purchased the book here at Amazon.com (I love this place!). With my highlighter in hand and notepad, I started devouring this book.

Pring's work reminds me of a college textbook in its thorough approach to technical analysis of the stock market. I have just gotten interested in the stock market, and I need this kind of detailed background so I can properly watch both the market and specific stocks. The charting techniques he explains will give the investor far greater insight into the future probable price trends. This will significantly increase their rates of return.

If someone knows a better book on technical analysis of stocks please e-mail me about it. (However, do NOT send me any junk e-mail advertisements.) I highly recommend this book to any investor desiring to get into the details of using charts to predict stock and market price movements.

Summary: Look elsewhere
Review: Not sure where some of the reviewers' heads are, but for candlestick charting, this book has beginners patterns in it. For more in depth coverage, Steve Nison's books are best.

As far as the KST system goes, there are better.

This is a basic book at best in my opinion, and after the initial few chapters on charting basics, it continues into verbiage that to me isn't accepted consistently by seasoned traders or analysts.

My recommendation is John Murphy's book "Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets".

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: good TA contents but mainly for long term investors
Review: The authors did a good job to explain TA clearly to the readers. In term of depth and clarity, it is as good as John Murphy's classic. The interest rate is Pring's strong area. He took an economist views to use TA. This was not a bad thing. But most of the charts he used were weekly charts. The signals to noise ratio was very high. Every inicator could give very clear and good signals. But when you use the daily charts, it simply couldn't happen. You can use weekly charts to make decisions ONLY if you are a lone term investor. This book is certainly not for day traders.

Summary: The Oracle of Technical Analysis Books
Review: This book is the most well written peace of literature that I have read in a long time. The book goes into great detail about trend lines and the importance of the stock price confirming with the indicators. This book gives more information then just the dry information of how to go about reading charts. It gives extra commentary dealing with the market in general which is found to be very informative. If you are in the market for a book on Technical Analysis, you have found the right one. Even though it is over 500 pages, it reads like a 200 page pleasure book. This book is meant for more advanced traders, but any beginner can read this with ease.

Summary: Beyond Candlesticks
Review: This book is truly amazing, I have recently finished reading it and I am considering to buy his first book too. He explains each and every chart very thoroughly, although I think it would be better for someone to read his first book first, because some he has some references of a few patterns from his first book. For anyone who wants to learn about japanese technical analysis techniques, this book is a MUST.

Summary: Look elsewhere
Review: What I particularly liked about this book was its practical application of using the many facets of TA to come up with a view on the market overall and then identify attractive sectors within it. Pring is quite momentum/rate of change oriented but his "Know Sure Thing" indicator is worth trying if you haven't already. Tying in other macro indicators such as interest rates into your investment decision is also very informative and helpful.
