Rating: Summary: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Clear Communication Review: I found the Complete Idiot's Guide to Clear Communication by Kris Cole to be a wonderful "How To" on the many facets of communication in organisations or on a more personal level. This book has the lot and the author has certainly practised what she preaches in making her points crystal clear. The way she communicates her ideas is definitely modelling the key messages that she is delivering. Cole begins where all good communication has its beginning - with values, beliefs and thoughts and follows this up with a whole series of strategies for improving your communication in a range of contexts. I particularly enjoyed the quotes that Cole uses to make her point and I have since used these on many occasions in my own presentations. I also valued her hints on deciphering body language and on getting to the real meaning being conveyed by the speaker. Cole is obviously a very practised communicator and adviser and has brought together an exemplary set of processes that facilitate effective communication. Cole's Ten Deadly Sins of Communication ought to be loudly displayed on every boardroom, staffroom, office and shopfront across the globe. Furthermore, they ought to be mandatory on the curriculum at schools and their memorising ought to be given as penance at confessionals all over this planet, which depends so heavily on communication for survival and thrival. Last year, I based an entire Conference for school principals on this book and, after three full days, we still had a long way to go to cover all of the fantastic details and appropriate suggestions for improvements. If you are interested in developing your own 'people intelligence' and that of the people that you have some influence over, get this book.
