Summary: An Excellent Musical Theatre Composition Master Class!
Review: I found the course extremely helpful in the development of my musical theatre songwriting. Learning through audiocassettes from Lehman Engel, a former musical director as well as a composer himself, I found many of his critiques helpful in understanding dos and donts. The sound quality of the tapes sometimes lacked clarity. There are some excellent lectures on comedy song writing, musical scene writing and how to expand a serious work into a musical. I was able to follow through the course, completing the course assignments. The only thing missing is the ability to interact and receive feedback in a class setting, however such is the downside in any self-study course, and can be accomplished if one takes the course with others. I wish more tapes of Lehman Engel's sessions were available as he had a great deal to share with the students of his live class. We can still take advantage of his knowledge years after his death through the completion of this self-study course. I have repeated the course twice since receiving the set, learning something new each time. Well worth the money and the time for composers, lyricists and musical directors.
