Rating: Summary: Regulatory Chapters in a convenient format Review: Since 1993, the United State Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an update of the Model Food Code for use in Food Service Establishments every two years. The latest version, the 2001 FDA Model Food Code, was released for public use in December 2001. Since the Code has evolved, the 2001 edition will set the standard for several more years until new content is added or modified. Each revision reflects the input of the many professionals intimately involved in assuring Food Safety. The frequent revision process assures that Code refelects the best 'Science' in repsonse to current food safety challenges. One of the major strengths of the Code is also one of the biggest drawbacks preventing ease of use. The Code presented by the FDA is formatted in an outline format, large type, wide left margins (for note taking), on 8 1/2" x 11" paper. The resulting document is a hefty 'phone-book' sized text more suitable for a desk reference than for use in a working Retail Food Service operation. The published Code contains valuable 'Annex Chapters' that are also more suitable for a desk reference volume. The 'Quick Reference to the 2001 FDA Model Food Code' addresses these concerns by presenting the Regulatory Chapters 1-8 in a streamlined text . . . one suitable for the working Food Safety professional, Dietary Manager, Regulator, Environmental Health Sanitarian, Food Safety consultant or student who needs a convenient, lightweight, and portable version of the Regulatory chapters of the 2001 FDA Model Food Code. (A separate companion volume,"Keyword Index and Quick Reference Guide to the 2001 FDA Model Food Code," is also available. This desktop reference contains over 25,000+ keyword and keyphrases contained in the Code PLUS Regulatory Chapters 1-8.)
