Summary: Continuing and Deepening Harry's world
Review: As I plowed through the book over the last few days, I was continually surprised by the number of times that Harry's behavior genuinely surprised me. He continues to grow (though not always mature...) and develop more complex relationships, feelings and problems.

Gone are the (relatively) care-free days of the first few books, instead the tone of the second continues. What originally seemed to be a utopian world to Harry is now showing strain and conflict in almost every aspect: educational, political and social.

Fortunately, this world is also inhabited by the Weasleys, Dobby, Hermione's relentless studiousness and an array of witty teachers to keep things light, for the reader if not for Harry. Also, several beloved aspects of earlier novels are back: the House Quidditch Cup, competition between the Houses, and, of course, a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher (well, two, sort of).

While not a perfect novel, it definitely was worth the wait. Of course, if book 6 takes another 3 years, Amazon may have to start selling Howlers to send to Ms. Rowling!

Summary: Loved this fifth book!
Review: I just finished reading The Order of the Phoenix and was very impressed by the suprise twists and turns. I enjoyed the pace of the book and felt it flowed smoothly. I loved that I got caught up in the movement and couldn't put it down. There were times I couldn't read fast enough to keep up with Harry and his friends. I enjoyed the new characters and felt an intense loathing for Umbrige which only increased with each chapter.
Although I was disappointed by a character's death, it didn't completely catch me off guard. Several chapters before, I felt a hint that it could be this person. None the less, I was very saddened.
Overall I truly enjoyed reading this book and have recommended it to everyone. I would recommend being familiar with the 3rd and 4th book in the series, as the character's are refrenced frequently. Definately take the time to read the book! (don't wait for the movie!)

Summary: Uninspired
Review: he biggest plus is the book is set the J.K.Rowling universe. Though at times it seems like a movie script - sets are paid way more attention than characters. There is no real character development and the dialogs are often repetative and boring as Harry himself points out (ohn the irony!). The book is not dark by any means, more confused ala teanager finding his place but in no means dark. The second book(CoS) is way darker than this one. The ending is the worst part - be prepared to be shocked by staggering dullness of the revalations. In many ways this is the anti book 4 - no new characters, no new spells, not much going on.

Summary: Amazing Book!
Review: "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is, I believe, the best installment in J.K. Rowling's seven part series. It contains chilling twists and leaves you reading till the end. Ms. Rowling has a spectacular knack for identifying what the reader wants, but she does not always deliver that. She delivers, like stated before, not what the reader wants, but what will be crucial to the plot and make the story more interesting. It personally left me on the edge of my seat and made it impossible to stop. It is not a must, but I would recommend reading books 1-4, as it makes many references to all of them and answers the crucial question of why Voldemort wished Harry dead in the first place. Also, it is known that someone close to Harry will die. When it happens, it will be a something that tugs at the ol' heartstrings! Sure to be a definite reread!

Summary: The new "Harry Potter" is like a roller-coaster ride
Review: Unbelievable, but the new Harry Potter book is even better than the first four. I could not put it aside until I had finished the last chapter. Reading this book is like riding a roller-coaster - thrilling and exiting and you just want to read faster and faster. And you can't get out until it's all over. J.K Rowlings work is really impressive and I can only recommend this book to everybody.

Summary: As always, an amazing and fantastic read!
Review: This book completely fulfills the promise of J.K. Rowling's earlier books. Despite tremendous pressure, Rowling has delivered-yet again.

The work is darker and more layered than her earlier books-in part, b/c Harry is growing up and in part, b/c Harry's readers are growing with him. Although Rowling pulls off the difficult task of writing on several levels (different elements of her story appeal to adults, children and adolescents), the book will have an especially strong appeal to 13 year olds b/c they are just beginning to experience the agony of adolescence.

And agony it is. What impressed me about this book was how developed Harry is and how real the difficulties he encounters are. He deals with the usual-Voldemort-but he also must face the realization that even those whom he loves may have very real flaws. This is a concept which often baffles adults and Harry's struggles to deal with the fact that his father may not have been perfect really rings true.

I was also really impressed by the way in which Harry must face death. This was incredibly real-his absolute rage and feeling of impotence (I say this as an adult who lost her own father while an adolescent). I hadn't thought I would but I cried when I read this section.

Overall, I can't recommend this book highly enough. Despite the sadness (and Harry's anger) which permeates the story, I loved the story-and I will always love Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and Diagon Alley. I just wish I could visit them and explore them even more but I guess that's a wish shared by everyone who reads these books.

One final comment: I feel frustrated by reviewers and commentators who seem dismissive of Rowling's accomplishments. So many of these adult reviewers seem to be ignorant of mythology, the history of magic and English literature, especially Jane Austen's books (I love the incorporation of Mrs. Norris from Mansfield Park). As an historian of science who taught a college class on the history of magic and science, I love all of Rowling's sly references to real-life alchemists, astronomers etc. and I am amazed by the way she incorporates these so smoothly into the text. Her knowledge of mythology is equally impressive-and the references are fantastic if you only know where and how to look (read a basic book on mythology, guys!).

And for critics who believe that Narnia or Middle Earth are better places to visit...give me a break! As a child, I found Narnia to be incredibly Victorian and silly (and the children to be hopelessly priggish). As far as Tolkein goes, his characters are not as well-developed as Rowling's and his self-conscious fashioning of his imagined world is so heavy-handed that it can make reading the books a burden. Rowling has a much lighter touch and her characters are very real!

Summary: An incredible reading
Review: With the speed at which this book is selling, it is perhaps almost trite to repeat the compliments -- but nonetheless, having just finished the book after staying up all night, I must surely say this is an incredibly strong piece of literature -- everything about the book works in ensemble -- engaging writing, thought-through plot, great characters -- can't really think of a flaw.
Perhaps the secret of Harry Potter's popularity across continents and generations is not just due to the quality of the book's writing and a solid story, but rather to the simple fact that in this distressed and unhappy world, all of us want to find a safe haven in a fairy tale where good fights and wins over evil. The book caters to our simplest desires to live without hate, prejudice, and violence; and for all it's worth, it's making this world a little better.

Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Review: A good book that was a true page-turner. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban or Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Both were more important to the development of the story of Harry Potter. The death of a major character (I don't want to spoil it for other readers) was infuriating to me, so much that I didn't even want to finish the book. It was still a good book though, but it didn't live up to the hype. Read it for yourself and find out.

Summary: After such a long wait...
Review: I was just a little disappointed! Mind you, I did really like the book, and I could NOT put it down! (I would give it 4-1/2 stars if that were available.)

But I don't think Phoenix is quite as good as Goblet was. Nor nearly as "dark" as was hinted. Actually, except for the scene in the Ministry of Magic (disappointing), it was more cheeky and light in the fashion of the earlier books!

I will say that the Weasley's were superb, Hermione was surprising, and Professor Umbridge was the quintessential villain! Harry was - Harry. And the end was a tad anticlimactic.

Having said all that, I am still eagerly awaiting the next one, and hope we don't have to wait 3 years! And if it is as long as this one, I would hope they would put it in two volumes, as the book was positively unwieldy to read...especially in bed!

Summary: ????
Review: though this book had started a little slow due to harry's prolonged stay away from hogwarts, this book was amzing! there are plently on new, interesting characters that u will love and hate and so much plot related events that will keep u flipping the pages. Harry finds himself battling many different things including his emotions and "the bad guys" but also will have a time dealign with some boy girl related issues. there's just so much that happens in this book and it will be such a shame if u never read it.
