Summary: Not her best
Review: This is not nearly as good as "The Hanged Man" in my opinion, but it is still pretty well written. If you're thinking about reading it, I would recommend it, just keep in mind that it is not one of her greatest.

Summary: Magical
Review: I think this story unfolds uncorrectly, same with the end. I definetly didnt like the change of characters ever-so often..I would like it based ONLY on Echo. Other than that, I loved this book, just like other FLB books! Read DANGEROUS ANGELS!!

Summary: An ethereal, fantastical dreamscape of darkness and truth...
Review: Echo is the first book of Francesca Lia Block's that I've had the opportunity to read... and what a beautiful world of dreamscapes, fantasy, darkness, and glamour does she create! I deeply related to Echo in that I also feel lonely, rejected, and a void of emptiness that I so desperately try to fill. Through the whimsical, fantastical imagery and through ethereal, otherworldly (and often somewhat tragic) reveries, the stories of several individuals are woven together into a single, beautiful tale, that while may be much more glamourous than reality, has a certain ring of truth... life is not all fairy-tales; it doesn't always turn out as you wish it to, there isn't always a happily ever after, and many individuals come and go along the way - some that break your heart and test your strength, but each with something to teach. Enduring through a difficult time myself, I found this book somehow comforting and uplifting...

Summary: -Echo-
Review: This was my very first time reading a novel by Francessca Lia Block. Not your average writer. She weaves the supernatural with magical reality. I must say this book was beautiful. I enjoyed it because it made me think and kept me interested.

Summary: mild disappointment but still wonderful as always
Review: First off, I have been a fan of Francesca Lia Block for a long time now and this book does not change that fact. Unfortunately I was mildly disappointed with Echo, although it is a wonderful book.

There were a few disappointments -- the changing from a character's view to a different character's view was sometimes mildly confusing, sometimes too complex. Time was lost within this book, but perhaps in a good way, I'm not quite sure. I'm always awestruck at Francesca's way with words and her poetic ease and the visuals she gives her readers. Echo is wonderful, all in all, but not one of my favorites. I love some of the characters more than I have in some of her other works, but the general direction of where the book is going is hard to tell.

Still. Read it. See what you think of the girl with the mermaid hair.

Summary: Fairytale Magic
Review: Once again Ms. Block's leading lady is a troubled girl living amongst the evil beauty of Shangri LA- Los Angeles. Like most of her characters, Echo has a gift. She can see people's life stories by dancing wildly in front of them.

On her journey to discovering her own self she encounters numerous creatures including angels, fairies, vampires, ghosts, and other mystical beings. These meetings teach Echo more and more about herself until she finally learns just who it is, she is.

The novel is told in different phases alternating between Echo herself and people she has encountered in her life. This proves quite compelling as Echo's opinions of herself typically differ drastically from how others see her.

Block continually proves herself as an unique voice and deserves much credit for always writing such beautiful tales.

Summary: Ok, but not one of Block's better works...
Review: While I am a fan of Block's books and poetic styles, I have to say that this isn't one of her better works. It was an okay book, but at times it just didn't hold my interest, seemed to lack some plot development, and was very confussing to read. It jumped around, and added in and dropped characters left and right. The plot was also a little weak. It is a depressing story, and takes your mind away. I'd recommend this book to people over the age of 13

Summary: GREAT!!!
Review: I have read four other books by Francesca Lia Block: I Was A Teenage Fairy (my favorite =0)), Dangerous Angels, Violet & Claire, and Girl Goddess #9. This is my second favorite. I liked it cause the main character wasnt perfect, and because through everything thappening in her life, she held on to the angel-boy that she truely loved. I loved reading about Smoke and Wendy, but my favorite story thing was the one about Skye. He was so mysterious, and even though you find out about what Mark and Nina did to him, you never find out really what happens to him in the end. I wish he had been in the story more. Anyway, great book, read it, and be sure to read my favorite FLB book, I Was A Teenage Fairy!

Summary: Refreshing, new, sparkles!
Review: Echo, Block's latest work, is wonderful. Of all Block's work, this is my favorite book. Why? you ask? Because this is the first of Block's books where the main character is real and someone I can relate to. Block is known for being surreal and fantasy-oriented and poetic. A style I much admire. But this novel stands out brighter than the rest. Echo (the main character) is not beautiful on the outside, an uncommon quality not found in many of Block's work. Echo is beautiful on the inside though. The story is the classic coming-of-age theme, but Block weaves mystical symbolism between the pages, making it all together new and refreshing for a change. The interlocking stories add to that too. If you enjoy Block's work you will like this book, and appreciate the change.

Summary: One of Francesca's Finest Books
Review: Echo's life seems fractured and unclear. She seeks comfort from beautiful angelboys and odd Los Angeles characters. When she discovers her angelic mother's frailties and her father's way of observing the world as a painter, Echo finally sees through her own adolescent confusion and begins to embrace her life rather than fear it. Echo is kinda like me and all the other girls drawn to this wonderful author's work. Lost but knowing there is a way.
