Rating: Summary: Truly Exceptional Stories for ALL ages! Review: The Narnian Chronicles have been my favorite series since I first read (and devoured) them in third grade (I'm now 30). I have since reread them many times, enjoying them even more each time as I see new things previously undiscovered or not understood. They are entertaining, imaginative, and thought-provoking from many perspectives, and will appeal even to the mature 5 or 6-year-old child as a read-aloud adventure. These books are truly worthy of discussion with your elementary, middle school, or high school student. College students have even written theses about these books and their many intriguing themes. I recently gave the entire set to my eighty-year-old grandmother as a gift, and she read them all within a couple of weeks! She said they were so good, she couldn't put them down, and she has loved talking to me about them ever since! My husband's 90-year-old grandmother is also an avid reader, finishing a book every few days. I am planning on giving the Narnia books to her as well! You simply can't go wrong purchasing these books. This is a wonderfully appealing fantasy series for all ages- it will surely be an enduring classic for generations to come.
Rating: Summary: Great FANTASY series Review: This is one of the best literary boxed sets ever produced. Stunning art, great classic design, and I enjoy the stories in the chronological order. It really ties the stories together well, from a clear beginning to a clean ending, or rather, new beginning.I am a spiritualist, studied in Native American history, and Christianity to me means next to nothing. Let's just say my studies have shown me the ridiculous nature of prevelant beliefs - but that is my opinion, and no offense to those who believe otherwise. In all honesty, in all my studies, these books of Narnia have gone farther to show me, and make me believe in, a "christian god" than any writing, sermon or psalm. The morals, the love, the study of true faith makes these books extremely pleasing to the spirit. Excellent fantasy, wonderous tales, and a series of beautiful hardback novels I look forward to sharing with my children...around a fireplace, and of course on a rainy day.
Rating: Summary: These are truly and magical books Review: "~These are definatly one of my favorite books, along with The hobbit, Harry Potter, and redwall. to appear in the books from than on. I will not tell you anymore, because that will tell you the ending. I would recommand this book to kids ages 7-12
Rating: Summary: Read them in the ORIGINALLY published order, NOT this order! Review: Yes, I know these are "chronicles" and yes, I know that even C.S. Lewis recommended in his letters that the books be read in internal chronological order rather than in order of how he wrote and published them (though he means to re-edit them for this purpose), BUT...it is a shame that publishers have now gone back and rearranged them in this way. There is a beauty and logic to the ordering of the books as he wrote them. In the first published book, _The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe_ we are introduced to the land of Narnia through the 4 characters who are our touchstones throughout the series (even in books where they are not characters). In the next 4 books, we learn more about Narnia and the people who inhabit the land through a series of adventures. Finally, as we near the end of the series we read the sixth book, _The Magician's Nephew_. In this book, we learn about the origins of Narnia. So many of our questions are answered. It is a joy to develop a deeper understanding of the meaning of the land of Narnia. Reading this book after we are already familiar and enamored with Narnia makes it so much more special to learn of the creation story, to discover the reason why familiar things are the way they are. This was by far my favorite book of the series, but it would have meant so much less to had I read it first when Narnia meant nothing to me. It is also the perfect set up for the final book, _The Last Battle_. Taking us back to the beginnings of Narnia before heading into the final struggle of good and evil helps us to understand the purpose and meaning of the sometimes dark and upsetting events of the final book. I highly recommend reading the books in the order in which they were originally published.
Rating: Summary: Calling for Christians! Review: Hi, Of course, i know Narnia chronicles to be wondrous books but my message will call for help - please, don't delete it! I live in the former USSR territory where few or none Christian books are available. At present I write my bachelor's work about the Chronicles and some time ago I lost access to them in original ( English) - the library closed. Yet, to finish my work and to defend I need them very, VERY much. Is there any willing Christian who could send me the complect of the Chronicles? i ask you from all my heart, please, be helpful, for I don't know anymore, what to do. Please, help, if you are Christians. I am already very thankful. Yours truly Barbala My email address - brr81@hotmail.com My defense of BA is planned in June. Please, please, SOMEBODY!
Rating: Summary: I could give these books 1,000,000 stars! Review: The Chronicles of Narnia are the BEST books ever! I have read them 3 times. My dance teacher even made a performance out of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. If I could recommend any books in the world, I would recommend these.
Rating: Summary: Delightful Reading, But Sadly Altered Review: There is a modern misconception concerning C.S. Lewis's great children's series, 'The Chronicles of Narnia.' Due to changes during reprinting, the orginal order of his seven-part series was disrupted to conform to the overall story-line. When the books were written, Mr. Lewis began his series with the classic Christian allegory, 'The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.' He then went on to write the remaining novels in a non-traditional, non-chronological order: part two of the 'Chronicles' was 'Prince Caspian'. Next came, 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader', 'The Silver Chair', 'The Horse and His Boy', 'The Magician's Nephew', and finally, 'The Last Battle.' Lewis released his novels in this order for a reason and I urge every reader to follow the original, proper sequence. It transforms a mere fantasy series into some of the single best children's novels in print. The symbolism of Christian allegory and the honest and noble morals that rest among the pages will stay with you and your children for years to come. May Aslan be with you and your family as you take the delightful trip into the fantastic and amasing land of Narnia!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Books, Wrong Sequence.... Review: These books are a rare joy; really classics in literature. I've read the entire series many times, as has my daughter. They hold many treasures -- they are much, much more than mere children's books. I am, however, very disappointed that the publisher has decided to rearrange the sequence of the books and sell them in chronological order. This may seem logical, but I feel that this is not what the author had in mind. And I know that readers new to the Narnia Chronicles (reading them in this new order) are confused with the first one or two books. Frankly, I feel a bit insulted that the publishers doubt the intelligence of their readers, obviously thinking us too immature to handle a Narnian history lesson as the one or other book takes us back to a time before Lucy and her syblings. (For any new readers, THE WITCH, THE LION, AND THE WARDROBE is meant to be the first book in the series). I truly wish that -some- publisher would reprint a collector's edition of the entire series **in the order in which they were originally written**. I would buy the entire set immediately! To sum it all up: Read these books, by all means, but read them in the correct order. Go by the first copyright dates if nothing else.
Rating: Summary: The Narnian Chronicles: Amasing read, Deceptive order Review: There is a modern misconception concerning C.S. Lewis's great children's series, 'The Narnian Chronicles.' Due to changes during modern reprinting (circa 1995), the orignal order of his seven-part series was disrupted to conform to the overall story-line. When the books were written, Mr. Lewis began his series with the classic children's novel, 'The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.' He then went on to write the remaining novels in a non-traditional, non-chronological order: Part two of the Chronicles was 'Prince Caspian.' Next came (3) 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader', (4) 'The Silver Chair', (5) 'The Horse and His Boy', (6)'The Magician's Nephew', and finally, (7)'The Last Battle.' Lewis released his stories in this order, and I urge every reader to follow the original, albeit unconventional, published sequence. It transforms a mere fantasy series into some of the single best children's novels in print. The symbolism of christian themes and morals will rest in the minds of all who read them; giving the reader a taste of hope and the power of true Belief. May Aslan be with you as you and your family travel through the unforgettable land of Narnia.
Rating: Summary: Be There For The Entire Time of the World of Narnia! Review: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MAGICAL STORY, HERE'S YOUR SERIES! The order the plubisher put them in after Lewis wrote them is as follows, although I'm not sure I spelled everything correctly: #1 THE MIGACIAN'S NEPHEW #2 THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE #3 THE HORSE AND HIS BOY #4 PRINCE CASPAN #5 THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER #6 THE SILVER CHAIR #7 THE LAST BATTLE The star charecter of the books, I can tell, is easily Aslan, and his bravery in LION was stunning! NARNIA is a true favorite, a treasure, and a classic. Please Note: Personally, I believe the easiest way to read them all is by buying THE COMPLETE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA (a 500+ page book including the full text of ALL SEVEN Narnia novels), or by buying the boxed set (either in hardcover of paperback.) Any way you read them, make sure you will be there for the entire Time of The World of Narnia. You'll surely enjoy it, trust me! _________________________________________________ Please Also Read These Other Reccomended Series and/or Books: MARY POPPINS SERIES by P.L.
