Rating: Summary: Lots and Lots of Holes! Review: Holes By: Louis Sacher Reviewed By: G.Tsai Period: 6Holes is a very good book by Louis Sacher. It is about a boy named Stanly Yelnats who is convicted of a crime that he did not commit.(He stole a pair of shoes.Clyde Livingston's shoes to be exact.)So he has two choices: he can either go to jail, or he can attend Camp Green Lake.If just by haring the name, you think that Cap Green Lake actually has a lake, then you're wrong. Camp Green Lake is a boys' detention center in the middle of nowhere. There, the boys'must dig holes. One hole per day, and the hole must be exactly 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. What the boy' do not know is that the 'Warden' is looking for a treasure there because a long time ago, there actually was a lake there. Consequently, she has the boys to dig holes for her. Some of Stanley's friends have weird nicknames. For example:Armpit, Zigzag, Squid,X-Ray,Magnet,and Zero.Their real names are:Theodore,Ricky,Alan,Rex,Jose, and Hector. The weird thing about Hector is that his last name is Zeroni, the very man that Stanley's great-grandfather was looking for when he got to the United States. My favorite part of the book is the end when Stanley, now dubbed 'Caveman', and Zero excape from the camp and they accidentally find the treasure that the Warden was looking for. When the Warden finds Zero and Caveman, there are a bunch of yellow-spotted lizards, which are very poisonous. The treasure that they found belonged to Stanley's great- grandfather who was robbed by the outlaw Katherine Barlow, otherwise known as Kissin' Kate Barlow. She is called Kissin' Kate Barlow because she first shoots the person, then she kisses them.In the end, both Stanley adn Zero get to leave Camp Green Lake. They also get to meet Clyde Livingston, the man who Stanley, supposedly stole the shoes from.(Zero was the one who really stole the shoes.)This is a really, really good book. Those of you who haven't read it,I advise you to go get a copy.
Rating: Summary: Holes By Louis Sachar Review: Holes Have you ever heard of the writer Louis Sachar? If so, you probably read or heard of Johnnys in the basement, Someday Angeline or There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom. The best book written by Louis in my opinion is Holes! Holes has got in many of awards like the National Book Award. Louis's writing is made for people 10 and up. I have seen middle school kids and high school kids reading the book Holes. His writing style is very easy to understand. The dialogue is wonderful, very easy so comprehend. When you start to read the book, you start building relationships with characters. There likes and there dislikes, what their favorite thing, or color is. As for the setting Louis has mastered that too. He is very descriptive in his work. It gives you a lot of imagery when your reading. So now that you know a little about Louis's work lets talk about Holes. Stanley Yelnats was sent to camp Green Lake because of some curse. The Yelnats think it is because of his no-good-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Who forgot to carry Madame Zeroni up the mountain. Stanley and his family didn't have a lot of money. They lived in an apartment which smelt like stinky feet. The smell came from his father who was on the verge on end the smell of bad foot odor. Stanley was a fat kid who didn't have a lot of friend. So when he was sent to Camp Green Lake, he hoped his look would change. Stanley was put into D-tent, the first day he got off to a bad start. They say the first hole was the hardest and they where right. Stanley soon got use to the digging, he once found a fossil. The next day he found a Golden Bullet or so he thought. Zero his best friend ran away because he could not take it anymore. Stanley was really sad because Camp Green Lake is a desert, so there was no way for Zero to survive. Late that week Stanley goes and run away in search for Zero. He later finds him underneath a boat. Now you are wondering how can there be a boat. Well Green Lake use to be a Lake and a Town. Many people lived there, Sam the African American who sells sweet onions. Ms. Katherine is the white teacher in the school house. Sam and Katherine fell in love and kiss. Back in the day that was not allowed so Sam was killed. Ever since then it has not rained, so Green Lake dried up and everyone moved away. As for Ms. Katherine she was known as Kissing Kate Barlow. Kate robbed everyone and every bank including Stanleys Great Grandfather she left him stranded in the desert they say he found refuge on gods thumb..So back to Stanley and Zero they saw Gods Thumb and decided to climb up, they finally made it and on top they found sweet onions. So a couple days past and Stanley was feeling pretty lucky. He wanted to dig one more hole, to see if they could find where Kissing Kate Barlows money, Did they find the money? Did Stanley become a millionaire? Did Stanley make it back to Camp Green Lake Safely? Well I'm sorry but I can not tell you. You need to read the book. It is one of my favorites and I hope it is yours too.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes Louis Sachar's Holes is a compelling story about a boy who is wrongly accused of stealing a pair of baseball cleats. He is sent to Camp Green Lake and is forced to dig holes for his evil warden. The rules are very simple to Camp Green Lake: Dig holes, eat, and sleep for only five hours a night. If you were to find anything interesting, it should be reported to the warden for an opportunity for a whole day off from digging holes. Stanley's first hole to dig is the worst of his life. His hands get blisters and callouses because he is not allowed to wear gloves. The holes must be 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. If they are not that exact size, the boys wil be sentenced to dig 3 more holes. This award-winning novel is sure to take your breath away. Louis Sachar packs in a whole lot of adventure for the boys and he writes a great story of Stanley as a hero. Louis Sachar's other books include There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom. Compared with the Holocaust, Holes comes pretty close. Without all of the killing though. Hitler is just as mean as the Warden at Camp Green Lake. I would recommend Holes to people who like adventure stories. The intended reading ages range from 11-14.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes Stanley Yelnats was a very unlucky man. He was always at the wrong place at the wrong time. He lived with his mother and father. His father was a very unsuccessful inventor that was trying to invent a machine that could recycle old sneakers. So one day Stanley was walking home from school and right when he walked under an overpass some sneakers fell and hit him on the head, so he continued on. Then a cop stopped right in front of him and took one look at him and the sneakers then arrested him. He later found out that those sneakers were a famous basketball players sneakers. So they accused him of stealing them that is why he was arrested. As a punishment Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake. This camp was made for getting kids that were in trouble out of trouble by building character. It was a long ride to the camp in the bus; it took about ten hours for them to get there. Once he got there he was in for a big surprise. He got off and looked around, there wasn't a lake at all. He went to the Warden's office to tell them that he was there. She told him to wash up and go get some rest. The next day Stanley was woken up at four thirty in the morning. They were required to dig a hole five feet deep and five feet wide every day; Stanley had to stay at the camp for a year so he had to dig a lot of holes. To find out the rest you're going to have to read the book. I enjoyed reading this book, it was very exciting and it sucked you right in. I would recommend this book to any reading level.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes This book is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who is always I the wrong place at the wrong time. Stanley blames his no-good-dirty-rotten-great-great-grandfather. Louis Sacher does a great job about putting you in Stanley's place and making it seem like you are him. The main characters in this book are Stanley and Zero (Hector Zeroni). They really don't get along at first but the friendship grows over time. I was so entertained in this book that I really had no hard felling towards any of the characters. I think the theme of this book is that coincident don't just happen they are there for a reason. The book was very entertaining if you listened closely. The ending of the book is very well written. I really loved reading this book. Louis Sacher kept the information perfectly precise. It is easy to understand. This is a great suspense book for everyone to read. I totally recommend this book. This book has four stars in my eyes. I hope everyone who reads this will love it too. This book would be good for readers ages 7-12.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes This book's main character is Stanley. He stole a baseball player's shoe. So for that he had to go a detention camp. The camp is terrible. All they would do at the camp is dig holes. The camps name is Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake used to be filled with water but now there is no water at all. This camp is for bad boys; these boys would get bad nasty blisters, from digging holes. Stanley the main character is nice he gets along with a lot of the characters. I like Stanley because of he's personality, he's nice and tries he's best to get along with others. The other boys are nice and kind but in the beginning of the story they were weird. The nick names are mean these nick names are really weird Armpit is a mean nickname. This story was very interesting when ever I read I don't want to stop reading. I always wondered what was going to happen to Stanley.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes By: Louis Sachar So, lets say bad luck hits you in the back of the head with an old pair of shoes. Is it right to be sent to jail because a random object decided it wanted to take out its rage in the beck of your head? Well, that's how life has been for Stanley Yelnats. He has been sent to Camp Green Lake, sounds good huh? green trees, blue cool lake? No, just miles and miles of dry dirt that has been turned into a giant dry and dirty sponge. Stanley soon finds out that he didn't catch the whole name of the camp, he didn't hear the "Boys Correctional Facility" part on the end. Through his time at Camp Green Lake, Stanley is supposed to grow character, but instead, he grows a knowledge for what's really going on! This book will want you to always stay and read just a little more with a douse of Mystery added on to a splash of Adventure.

So he got sent to a camp that made them dig a hole every morning. Then his best friend runs away from camp and almost dies, but then Stanley comes and saves the day. Finally, his lawyer comes and tries to get Stanley out of camp. I like the book Holes because it's interesting, adventurous, exciting, and is so passionate to me because I think Stanley became very deep in loving camp after he got used to it. I sort of disliked it because it was to involved in just juvenile things
Rating: Summary: HOLES a review by Abby Review: HOLES Have you ever found savior on what you thought was Gods thumb? Well in the story Holes a boy named Stanley, the protagonist, is accused of steeling a pair of shoes. So he had a choice he could go to jail or go to a camp called Camp Green Lake. He chose Camp Green Lake. After a while at Camp Green Lake he got as sore as a person who got beat up all day. When he was finished he got a four-minute shower. This went on day after day. Except one day while digging he found a gold tube with the anisole K.B on it. Then a boy named Zigzag, his friend, gave the tube to the warden. So zigzag got the rest of the day off instead of Stanley. Then some time after Stanley, a boy, had pretended to steel some sunflower seeds. Zero, Stanley's friend, hit one of the leaders with a shovel across the face and ran away. Then Stanley as quickly as he could ran the water truck in to a hole when he went to fined Zero. He found Zero under an old boat that said Mary-Lou on it and then him and Zero went on torts what they thought was the big thumb of God. They finally got to the top of the mountain where the big thumb was. Will Stanley and Zero ever go home or not? I thought this book was funny. It was interesting at times too. I thought it was funny when Stanley drove the water truck in to a hole. I liked it when Stanley told stories about people like his no good pig steeling great great grand father in between. I thought Stanley was a funny person who had a strange personality at first. He could always see his friends looking over his shoulder when he was reading a letter from his mom. I thought it was cool when it seemed like the author was talking about to things at once. The protagonist, Stanley, was accused of steeling some shoes. Another protagonist, Zero, was Stanley's friend. Stanley was as big as a bear and Zero was as good of a digger than any one. Stanley was a frail after digging. Zero was also underhanded and undaunted. Zero had maneuvered digging but Stanley had not. Stanley's last name is his first name backward. Zero used to have a mom but she ran away when he was little Zero also did not have many friends. I liked Zero and Stanley because they had lots of things to share with each other and they did a lot together. To see what happens next read the book Holes.
Rating: Summary: holes Review: Holes Louis Sachar 233 pages 5 Stars This book takes place in Camp Green Lake, a boys detention camp in Texas. The boys that have or have not done anything wrong are tortured by being made to dig 5 ft by 5 ft holes every day. Stanley Yelnats and the other boys at the camp are tired of this and have a conflict with the Warden. They know she is looking for something. The boys put their lives in danger while trying to find out what the Warden is really up to. Take it from me this is a great book because if you knew me you would know that I hate reading. But this is one book that I actually finished. Now that must tell you that it must be good. By: Allen Clark
