Summary: A wonderful book for ALL ages!
Review: Although I am a professional writer, my review isn't nearly as technical as the previous two readers'. This, quite simply, is a FUN BOOK! My four month old daughter enjoys the bright images on each page and adults love the zoom concept! It keeps you guessing and reminds you to look at the bigger picture in life... perhaps reminding you that you're not in the world all on your own. Add this to your bookshelf and then pick up an extra copy as sometimes it is not easy to find and you'll surely want to give one as a gift!

Summary: a postmodern pictorial excursion
Review: I must disagree with the statement that this book is for children ages 6-8 since much of what Banyai does is well beyond what most children will understand. Banyai's virtual elimination of a fixed frame of reference pulls at the mind in a way that few books aimed at adults do--one simply never is quite sure what is going on. Not only is everything part of something larger (until the end when the earth becomes a period or a hole in the darkness), but there are a few subtle plays on the element of static versus moving and time versus non-time which invite considerable thought.

This book plays on certain postmodern ideas and can be thought of as a very complex exploration of perception and semiosis. These topics are far from typical in "children's literature" and this book will provoke more thought than most popular serious novels will.

Really quite an excellent book!

Summary: This is an excellent coffeetable book!
Review: I was introduced to this book last night when it was given as a gift to my 50 year-old cousin. All of the aduts present were intrigued with this near-wordless masterpiece. None of us read the inside jacket before 'reading' the book and that is the way it should be read to be truly appreciated. I think the book would be 'wasted' on very young children who would see it as just another picture book. Excellent gift. I'm ordering them for all my (grown) children this minute!

Summary: VideoBook
Review: It may take a while to understand HOW the book actually works, but that's only part of the story, the transitions will make your child imagine how they happened. The book works in several levels, provoking thought and commentary from its reader, or in this case "visualizer".

Summary: Great even for a toddler
Review: My 19 month old son loves the Zoom and Re-Zoom books. He will sit and turn the pages by himself or make us turn the pages for him. He does not seem to tire of them and seems to notice something new each time. I think it is teaching him spatial relationships and continuation of concepts.

Summary: You never know what your going to get!
Review: My friend recently brought this book to school. She got it off of here. I loved it! Your always wondering what you'll find next. This book is definitley a "page turner" and thats what people like the best.

P.S. I'm 13 and I loved it so take away that 6-8 age limit because your losing ALOT of customers!

Summary: Banyai Zooms Into New Territories
Review: Rooting through the so-called "children's section" of your local bookstore you will most likely find a bright spine emblazoned "ZOOM" that sets itself apart from the competition with unique design and memorable detail. Istvan Banyai's first book proves to be a strange animal in the overwhelming and often blase world of children's literature. His work features vivid images that effortlessly pull the reader into a vortex of thoughtful progression, as each image turns out to be only a fragment of a larger picture. Sound confusing? Intriguing? This is a book that has to be seen, no, experienced, to be understood. Although the term "reader" is slightly inappropriate. Banyai's book has no text, which heightens the individual significance of each image. The book is definitely cosmopolitan, ranging from metropolitan to Polynesian images. One of the great things about this book is that is not exclusively or even definitely for children. It is the coffee table book that few could r

Summary: Superb message!
Review: This 54 year old woman found ZOOM to be an interesting lesson in perspective. There is an important message underlying these illustrations, ie, not to judge and to view the entire picture, if possible, prior to developing conclusions. A wonderful life lesson.

Summary: Attention!
Review: This book will grab your attention as you are drawn into the details of a story without words. I have used this book with primary aged students and they are delighted in the depth of the details in a story without words. Really gets them to look at things a little more closely!!
