Rating: Summary: This is one for ALL AGES, and not just a night-time story! Review: This is one of my all-time FAVORITE books, and one I've purchased countless times over the years. It's such a perfect gift for someone who's shown you even a small kindness - and one whose lesson could and should be treasured by all who read it. The people who've received the book from me have gotten even more pleasure from realizing that the small gift they've given me is recognized as the spirit of sharing and giving that lies within us all. I've spent twenty years in the Navy, and the lessons of The Tree are often part of my conseling for junior Sailors. There's almost always a way to work a management challenge around to the most simple of terms, and the book is the perfect tool to help me get them to recognize that.
Rating: Summary: Great book, brings back memories.... Review: This is an all time favorite, the best book ever written for children and adults alike! I got this book when it was first published, and I was just a youngster. Now that I am older, I still reflect on this excellent piece of writing. Anyone who doesn't have this, if your 5 or 95......go out and buy it, you will not regret it!
Rating: Summary: This book is a treasure. Review: If flood or fire comes to my house, this is the book I will grab as I run out the door with my children. This powerful story of love transcends age and religion. It is truly wonderful. If you love this book, you will want to read a new book called "The Prince Mammoth Pumpkin~A Parable" by James Adams. It is a deeply moving story for all ages with lovely four-color illustrations.
Rating: Summary: The Giving Tree is about unconditional love, pure and simple Review: The Giving Tree is about unconditional love pure and simple. The tree gives of itself without question to the boys request of its apples, branches and trunk. He does this to the point of being left a stump and even offers this to the boy, who as a old man now, just wants a place to sit and rest. Its the best example of the art of love, with no strings attached.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book to teach children the power of selflessness Review: Such a powerful book, yet perfectly suitable for younger children. I cry every time I read it, but what a beautiful ending.
Rating: Summary: Oh for the simple days! Review: Favorite childhood book... Favorite adult book. While there may be unlimited information on the "net", Shel Silverstein's book is timeless and touches humanity on a universal level...speaks of the truth in all of us.. so goes the true joys in life and love.
Rating: Summary: This book is a must for all adults and children Review: When my late wife was diagnosed with leukemia, we shared several Shel Silverstein books with each other. However, this one book described to us the true meaning of love and commitment. Whenever anyone asks me about children's books, I always suggest this book.
Rating: Summary: One of the most simplistically powerfull books ever written Review: What a beautiful story. Shel writes a book for kids, aimed at adults. It takes an emotion, a loving emotion at that, that all people experience yet have a hard time relating to or describing... and manifests it through a story. Shel has my upmost respect as an author, and has what I would consider true vision.
Rating: Summary: The Give and Take of Life! Review: I read this book to my two sons nearly every night for a year. One said it was a sad story...the other said it was a happy story. I could not argue with either of them. The Giving Tree gave everything she had to make someone else happy. Yet the one that gave the most ended up the happiest.....a lesson I hope my boys will keep with them for thier lifetime!
Rating: Summary: loving tree does all she can for her boy Review: I think all the people who gave this book 1 2 and 3's idiots this book is about a motherly figure that does all she can. The tree is not killed or plowed over it just become a stump and when the man is eighty he come and sit on her. She doesn't want to be thanked all she ask is that the boy is happy
