Summary: Simply the best.........
Review: 38 years ago, at a used book sale, my mother bought me my first Nancy Drew mystery. After reading it, I was hooked. I still have my entire collection. Recently, I had the pleasure of introducing Nancy and her friends to my 10 year-old niece. She read 3 books in 5 days!!! I think my old books have found a new home.

Summary: Photocopy on Top of Photocopy
Review: All of the Nancy Drew books are exacly the same. Not one of them ever has a change in plot. I bet the author used the exact same format for all 56 books. Nancy Drew hears that there is a mystery, so she and her friends go to solve it. She finds some clues, gets into a tight situation with the "bad guys", and get out of it. Repeat about three times. Then...it doesn't change a bit...she solves the mystery and is about to turn in the criminals when they catch her and she is about to die. She escapes, the "bad guys" are put in jail, and she and her friends cheer. Every single book is exactly the same. Can't the author use any creativity to change the plot around? It is so unrealistic that she would get into "scary" situations, and get out so many times. In every story she solves the mystery and it always comes out good. There are almost no obstacles and what few there are are so lame, it is almost pointless to have them in the first place. There is absolutely no point in reading all 56 of them. I can understand reading one just to try something new, but after that why read more? They are all exact photocopies of the last one. Spend your money on something worthwhile.

Summary: A Treasure for Young Girls
Review: Anyone with the good fortune to have a daughter has likely, at one time or another, either read a Nancy Drew mystery to her, or purchased one for her to read herself. These are timeless classics for young girls growing up. For decades Nancy has been a good and positive role model for young girls. She was also a fun read, letting every young girl pretend for awhile that she was an amateur detective like Nancy, with pals like Bess and George. Her dad, Carson Drew, was both protective and proud of his winning daughter, who didn't fall too far from the family tree.

This boxed set has the ones every girl gets first, the beginning of her journey into young adult reading. Light and fun, but with just enough mystery for a young girl to use her imagination, Carolyn Keene's creation of Nancy Drew was like a good friend every girl could rush home to after school. There was, and is, magic between the pages, secrets and mysteries, and even a little danger. Many girls have spent joyous hours over the decades finding out about that old clock, that hidden staircase and that secret at Lilac Inn, and your daughter will also.

This is a good investment into your child's future. It builds confidence and lets her discover for herself the simple joy of reading. A wise purchase.

Summary: Great reading for young girls!
Review: I disagree with the reviewer who complains of stereotypes and dumb stories in these books. Like that reviewer, English is my second language (I learned it when I was 10 years old). I've been an avid reader from age 3, having read everything from Vanity Fair magazine to comic books to Twain, H.R. Wells, Stevenson, Dickens, you name it... to Nancy Drew. The Nancy Drew mystery stories gave me a lot of joy when I was in 5th and 6th grade, and even now that I have a serious job in a law office. I highly recommend Nancy Drew! The early books may be outdated, yes, but any preteen is smart enough to realize that (they were outdated when I first read them too and we all knew that). What is refreshing about them is that they are plain detective stories, not about sex, not about vulgarity, not about violence. They are Agatha Christie stories for the younger crowd. They are well written and easy to understand, but not dumb. Proof is they are still around after 70 years.

Summary: Great for kids to read by themselves
Review: I normally preview all the books that my 8 year old reads but I confess I have not read every single Nancy Drew book she has been reading. Reason? I feel pretty comfortable that the Nancy Drew series do not contain some outrageously inappropriate material for 8 year olds. Sure, Nancy Drew is not comparable to Dickens or Twain, but they make a fun light read for children. I am particularly relieved because for a while, my child would not read anything except the Harry Potter series (which she has read numerous times). Then she accidentally started on the Nancy Drew series and was finally able to put down the HP books, for once! No offense, Ms. Rowling -- we LOVE your books but I just thought that she should be also reading something else, at least for a while :). In short, you may want to consider the Nancy Drew series if you are looking for some clean, fun, reading for your children. For the reviewer who is concerned about the "dumbing" down of our children, bear in mind that there are also many intellectually challenging books out there to supplement you child's diverse reading list.

Summary: Good mystery books!!
Review: I really like these books! Old, yes, but classics! At times, the way Keene writes seems sort of old-fashioned, but that doesn't make these books super good! I have only read #1 & #2, but I am planning to read all the rest. #1 was good, but #2 was even better! Even scary!! A great series! MUST READS!!

Summary: Great Role Model for Girls
Review: I thought I was going to be disappointed in these because they significantly different (updated/rewritten) than the Nancy Drew (same titles) I read growing up. Upon reading three of these from my daughter's set, I am happy to say that the flavor and goodness of the stories have been preserved. And Nancy is as independent, good-hearted, and intelligent as ever. I love this newer Nancy Drew as much as I did the original one when I was growing up, and I encourage all girls to read these wonderful stories.

Summary: I love these books!
Review: It was great reading the first set of Nancy Drew books. I love how they were written such a long time ago and they used old words. Their great books to read!

Summary: Who dosen't love Nancy, George, and Bess?
Review: It was great reading the first set of Nancy Drew books. I love how they were written such a long time ago and yet they aren't boring like some other classics. I felt driven by just reading the first book to open up my own detective agency! I really became immersed while reading and felt like I was Nancy Drew.
