Rating: Summary: A Review for Prospective Teachers Review: Mrs. Frisby, a widowed field mouse, is forced to take on a big adventure when her youngest son Timothy gets ill. Timothy's illness comes just before spring, and with spring comes moving day. Mrs. Frisby is forced to seek help, leading her to the all but ordinary Rats of NIMH. This fictional adventure is perfect for capturing the attention of any reader nine years of age or older. Although the story is written from the view of fictional farm animals the reader is pulled into the suspenseful plot and is easily drawn into the emotions of each character. Not only is the book enjoyable to read, it is good for the classroom teacher. It conveys lessons on qualities like friendship, bravery, and teamwork. These qualities let the book easily be integrated into the classroom. I recommend "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" to anyone who would enjoy a fun and rewarding text.

Rating: Summary: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH Review: The book I read was "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH". The main charecter is Mrs. Frisby, she has four children. There are two boys and two girls. The two boys are Martin and Timothy, and the two girls are Cynthia and Teresa. Timothy has pneumonia, and in five days it is going to be moving day. Mrs. frisby goes on quest to get the house moved and to get Timothy better. I liked this book because it was emotional as well as a exciting book. The charecters go on adventures and meet all kinds of talking animals. If you saw the movie, you should still read the book because the movie is so much different then the book. The type of people who would like this bookwould be people who like science fiction, and people that like fun easy reading. I would give this book **** four star because it is a good book and I have no complants about it. It is more of a fairytale put in 12 year old words. It is all in all a good book and you should read it.
Rating: Summary: An excellent college-age reading adventure Review: This review by I, Professor Emeritus Johnstone, is perhaps the best review you will ever read on this web-site. Mrs. Frisbee and the Rats of NIMH is an important literary soiree for all ages, but most especially young scalawags of the collegiate variety. As you know, I, Professor Emeritus Johnstone, teach these youthful scamps American Literature (one of the most difficult classes, I assure all you future learners!). Now, dear readers, I must recommend that anyone interested in taking American Literature at the collegeiate level should indubitably read this fine novel. It brings all the most important elements of literature together-namely adventure, appeal to all ages, and rodents. Also, their is an element of truth to the novel. Although government stooges may try to cover this up, I, Professor Emeritus Johnstone, know that the Rats of NIMH do exist! You sceptic fools say I am jesting, that I am a stooge myself, but this is not so! You forget, I am Professor Emeritus of American Literature! Thank our Maker Master O'Brian brought these true stories to light in a college-level text.
Sincerely,
--Professor Emeritus Percy Q. Johnstone
Rating: Summary: I'm 30, and I still loved it Review: When I was little, The Secret of NIMH was such a magical movie to me. Back when animated films could be subtle and touching rather than filled with slapstick antics and constant wisecracks. Perhaps I've just grown old. In any case, I was not too old to enjoy the novel upon which the movie was based.
It turns out the movie was a very faithful rendition of the book, leaving out only a few things. The most significant comes at the end. I shan't spoil you, but the novel's ending leaves some questions unanswered in a delightful "keeps you thinking about stuff" sort of way. I've heard that O'Brien's children attempted to continue the tale, but I'm a little leary of what their resolution might be, lest it was not what was intended.
So, if you loved the movie, read the book that inspired it. It's got the same wonderful atmosphere to it.
