Rating: Summary: Never read the books but purchasing TODAY! Review: Last night I had the opportunity to view a play entitled "The Boxcar Children" at the Seattle Children's Theatre. What a masterpiece--"flawless" expressed my husband who accompanied me along with our 4 year old daughter and 6 year old son. It captured the attention of old and young alike; not to mention, a tear jerker. I'm so anxious to purchase the books! I've read the reviews from others and can't wait to dive into them to read to my little ones! I have to say, the best part of the evening was actually meeting Gertrude Chandler Warner at the reception--what a wonderful treat!!!!! I placed 5 stars on the rating even though I have not read them yet...as they say, the book is always better!!!
Rating: Summary: Are they orphans? Review: The Boxcar Childrens is a great book. It is about four children that are orphans. The story takes place in a small village called Greenfield. The problem is that they are orphans and they are homeless, so they try to make it on their own. They live in a boxcar and that's when the adventure starts. Henry starts to work to bring to his brother and sisters food to eat. The protagonists are Henry, Violet, Benny, and Jessie. If you want to know more, read the book! I like this book because is sad and funny. I highly recommend this book. The story is by Gertrude Chandler Warner. I think this book is very exciting
Rating: Summary: My son loves this series! Review: This book was part of my five year olds reading curriculum this year, and he adored it. I think these stories should be a must-read for today's youth. The children are pleasant, helpful and kind to one another, which is so refreshing compared to some of the more modern stories written today.
Rating: Summary: Fun to read for grown up kids! Review: When I was nine years old and in fourth grade (never mind how long ago that was) I found THE BOXCAR CHILDREN when the Bookmobile came to our school. I checked it out and started reading it, and couldn't put it down.About two weeks ago I decided to read it again. I was still taken in and charmed by its ease of reading and its very well-written plot. It's about four orphaned children who have to fend for themselves and they find and old boxcar in the woods and they use it for shelter and manage to survive -- surprisingly well. The ending is happy, but for the young reader, the plot can keep them on edge until the story is over. Some might criticize this book as being "dated," but I have found that a good story will come through in spite of the chronological time in which it happenned. For myself, I found it fun and refreshing to read. Things STILL can turn out well. I'll make a guess that parents who read this story to their children will enjoy it as much as the kids do!
