Rating: Summary: This is one of my favorite books. Review: I am 10 years old and I liked the story because it teaches a boy about not saying things like "I would eat chocolate rather than any food", and when he said that, he got what he wanted, but soon he started not liking it because whatever his lips touched turned into chocolate. At the end he learns his lesson the hard way.
Rating: Summary: The Chocolate Touch: A Book Review by Michael Review: I read this book to my third graders each year and they absolutely love it. It is easy to read, follow that characters, and the plot of the story. It teaches many lessons on greed and appreciating this in small doses.
Rating: Summary: Solidly entertaining Review: John Midas can't control himself when it comes to candy. He'd rather eat candy than anything else in the world, and he's rather eat chocolate than any other kind of candy. Still, it comes as a great shock to him when, the morning after a mysterious encounter with a candy man, his toothpaste tastes like chocolate. In fact, everything tastes like chocolate, and he finds that whatever he puts into his mouth is transformed into pure chocolate.
This instantly causes problems, and John tries to remedy the situation even as the power to transform things into chocolate intensifies.
Some of the descriptions, particularly food descriptions, in this book are very evocative, and the story is fairly straightforward. The author also does a good job of thinking up different ways for John's gift to become a problem.
But I'm not sure that the story has aged particularly well-the device of the magic coin that transforms John, and the reversal upon repentance might seem a little cliched, even to a child. Surely, most children would recognize that a doctor who declares that John's insides are chocolatified is not a qualified medical practitioner (this would be okay if the story was goofy and humorously surreal, but Catling plays it straight).
Despite these complaints, this is an entertaining little story that really does capture the imagination in places, and children who love to read will find this a pleasant way to pass a little time.

Rating: Summary: The Chocolate Touch Review: The Chocolate touch by Patrick Skene is about a boy named Charlie who desires eating chocolate. But when it comes to vegetables and real food he dislikes it. Charlie eats chocolate so much that everything he touches turns into chocolate. This book also relates to the book King John Midas because everything he touches turns into gold. The message that this sends to readers is always eat healthy, and never spend money on things you don't even use or you know you won't use. I myself spend money on things, I don't need. My opinion is I think you should read this book if you like thrillers and comedy. I also think if you like this book then you'll like King John Midas. My favorite part in this book is when their taking a test and Charlie thinks his pencil is chocolate so he starts chewing it. I would recommend it for children and adults.

Rating: Summary: A funny and charming fantasy. Review: This book is basically a twist on the story of King Midas and the Golden Touch. In this case, though, it isnÕt gold that the main character, John Midas, loves, but chocolate. When John receives a "gift" of the ability to turn everything he touches to chocolate, it turns out to be more of a curse than a gift. Having his breakfast bacon and eggs turn into chocolate seems wonderful, but when he gets thirsty and canÕt get a simple (non-chocolate flavored) drink of water, he begins to understand the need for variety. I donÕt know many children who have an overpowering love of gold, but just about every child can identify with a boy whose desire for chocolate knows no bounds, and so this story is just a natural grabber for elementary school-age children. You might expect a book with a message (eat a variety of healthy foods) to be moralistic, even a little dull, but this book is nothing like that. The plot is absorbing, much of it is laugh-out-loud funny, and the characters are all well-drawn and interesting. The Chocolate Touch is a real charmer.
Rating: Summary: Read it fast!!!!!! Review: This was a great book that I enjoyed reading. The content of it was fictional but had very practical application to real life situations. The book is great for any age. I am 16 and was surprised to find how intriguing it was. I would recommend this book to anyone young and old.
