Summary: My favorite book in the whole entire world!!!!
Review: As a second grade teacher I have read George and Martha to hundreds of seven and eight year olds. This book is about what true friendship really is. Knowing the stories by heart I sometimes double over laughing before I even read the page. When I ask, "Who's your teacher's favorite author?" Everyone responds, "James Marshall!!" This anthology was a true gift and one of my prized posessions. If I could have just one book on a desert island, this would be it.

Summary: Delightful, wonderful tales with lessons
Review: George and Martha books have been favorites of mine for years, and I was thrilled to find this complete anthology. The droll drawings and honest dialogue please children and adults alike. We can all learn from George and Martha.

I felt sort of sorry for the woman who wrote and said this book was nothing compared to the TV show. I don't think she "gets it." READING opens door after door into life. READING this book helps children understand what true friends are, how "give and take", sharing, listening, being unselfish, and even self-sacrifice make your world better. George and Martha truly love each other.

Summary: The Best Book on Friendship Ever Written
Review: Have you or anyone you know ever been troubled by the complexities of friendship? This endearing collection of vignettes in the lives of two very dear friends, models how to get through the peaks and troughs of human relations. I have had two best friends for over thirty years and I know friendships take a lot of work. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote wonderfully about friendship but James Marshall wrote these profoundly simple, almost poetic stories about two hippos who err, forgive, sacrifice, love, and put up with each other in a most charming and edifying fashion that everyone can understand. George and Martha books are adored by children and adults; they are well illustrated, in simple language and highly allegorical. I have given them as greeting cards to celebrate, apologize, teach, support, and grovel. I bought this full collection as a birthday present for a teenager who loved the stories as a child, and deeply appreciates the lessons as an emerging adult. (Frankly, I wanted to keep it for myself -- but that would have been too selfish, so I bought another.) Enjoy this book and benefits of dear friends.

Summary: A wonderful book for children and adults alike.
Review: Having read George and Martha as a child, I was happy to receive the complete version of Marshall's stories for Christmas this year. The stories are clearly for children, but are humorous for adult readers as well. The pea soup story is a classic. The illustrations are wonderful.

Summary: My 6 year old ADORES this book!
Review: I did something I've never done before - bought a book based only on Amazon reviews and by the frequency that this book appeared on peoples' lists of favorite books. And I was not disappointed - this is a great book.

My 6 year old is a fast reader, but had viewed reading only as a task to get through - not to enjoy and savor. This book changed all that. At first I was disappointed to see that the stories in the chapters were so short, but I have come to see that the brevity is part of the attraction for new readers - they get to turn pages a lot! The lessons about friendship are wonderful, and very, very funny. You could buy the paperback books with these different stories, but my child LOVES having this huge hardcover collection of stories to read through - it's wonderful! We have only had it for a few months, but it gets read every night, and the use on the jacket cover already shows how much this book is treasured and loved. Mom & Dad love to listen to these stories, too.

Summary: In one word...adorable
Review: I just recently came across the George and Martha stories, and I couldn't be happier that they're now released in a complete collection! Every child should be exposed to the witty, funny writing of James Marshall...he's a genius! His talent for capturing each character from simple drawings is uncanny, and the short stories make it easy for children to hear MORE! I haven't read these stories to a child yet who didn't love them. Don't let your children miss out on George and Martha - CLASSIC!
