Summary: A Questionable Tale
Review: I'm a huge fan of Olivia and was thrilled to browse through this book and then pick up a copy for my nephew. It wasn't until I read it to my husband that I realized what a terrible story this is.

This is a story about a selfish little girl who doesn't take the time to acknowledge her mother's handmade soccer shirt, yet proclaims her father to be the best person in the world when he gives her the promise of the purchase of the best toy ever.

I love Olivia and parts of this book were so, well, Olivia! But I just don't feel the book presents the kind of message I would want my nephew...or my own children...to hear and think is okay.

I returned the book very sad indeed.

Summary: Olivia, Is Such a Silly Pig
Review: Ian Falconer has built a large fan base with the silly pig,Olivia. Her pig antics are on a human scale, and children and adults can identify with her. Olivia has her mind set on a new jersey and not the kind her friends have. Her mom is busy with this new jersey until Olivia discovers her favorite toy is missing- everything in the household stops to help Olivia find her toy. Alas, it is gone. In a dream/nightmare Olivia sees her dog chewing on her favorite toy- oh no, mommy sews it back together and Olivia is free to move on to other things. I know Olivia lives in the heart of her young readers. My granddaughter sent me the following:
"hi gramma
the new olivia book came and i love it! she is such a silly piggy. mom says she is a little ornery like me. i don't know what she means. thank you for thinking of me and for the nice prezzie." This says it all- don't you think? prisrob

Summary: Come on, the book is great!
Review: Olivia is "a brat"? Parents who wrote this are clearly not getting it! First of all, Olivia's character is based on the author's REAL DAUGHTER and on real events from her life. It DOES happen to kids that they are bratty, dissapointed, and demanding, it's HOW they and their parents RESOLVE these issues is what's important. Secondly, we know by now, that she is a strong-willed little pig who clearly knows what she wants, and what she wants is HER FAVORITE TOY! Mind you, she is not afraid to go to a dark room for it, neither she minds to saw it back together. AND she forgives the dog. AND there is this this cutest comic strip! My son LOVES it! Even my Russian rendition...

Summary: Simple, fun story - Cute lead character
Review: Olivia is a funny little character that most kids will love.
The story is simple but very fun, with a small lesson about forgiveness (by example).
The design of the book is very nice, and includes a very clever page that folds out, revealing the 'secret" of the story.

All in all, a satisfactory purchase.

Summary: Olivia fans must add this book to their collection
Review: Olivia is a spirited, intelligent young lady and my now 6 yr old daughter really emphasizes with Olivia's abiltity to get into trouble. We often repeat the phrase from book 1 "....and she even wears herself out....".
This story is charming, and holds my daughter's interest. The whole Olivia series is a must have for non-conformists, the tales show that individuality is a good thing. Mommy Pig is a nice calming influence, and I love the cultural references peppered througout the books.
