Summary: Fun to Read
Review: I don't know of many stories that are more fun to read. My daughter loves the animals and the bright pictures. The words will keep her attention through about half the book usually. She is still young though and some of the pages towards the end get a little long. The book is probably better suited for children 2 and older.

Summary: I love this story
Review: I love to read this book the children in school.

It is a silly story and I try to make each child in the circle
one of the things in the Old Lady's belly as we go along. At the end of the book they almost know all the parts by heart!!

Summary: No one quite knows why
Review: If you are an elementary music educator or love music enough to sing in your classroom you should really get this book. This is a great American folk song that kids love. Reading/Singing books with students is one step above just singing. It adds a little excitement to the class yet it is as simple as singing do-re-mi. My students ask for it again and again. It keeps the teacher away from the piano so they can focus on voice production. But enough about THAT! The book is great!

Summary: If you eat too much junk you'll get very sick.
Review: My Grandaughter and I loved this book. It's the best version I've read to date.

You can see inside the old ladies tummy through a hole in each page everything that she has eaten. It's easy for your child to follow the story as the see through holes help them remember what she ate. The more she eats the fatter she gets eventually dying. A morbid end to a famous story, but fun to read none the less.

A wonderful book to add to you personal library.

Summary: Great Read Aloud
Review: My kindergarten students love reading along with me as I share this book. The repetitive phrases and colorful illustrations capture each child's imagination. They love the die cut hole that flows throughout the book to keep them wondering what else she could possibly hold in her belly! This is a great read aloud story and one they will continue to pick up time and time again.

Summary: Delightfully Silly
Review: Perhaps I was just in a weird mood when I first read this book to my son, but I just found it laugh out loud hilarious. The expressions on the old lady's face are just too much, and the clever running commentary by the about-to-be-swallowed animals just adds to the fun.

The artwork is colorful and detailed, and there is plenty of little details for a smartalecky kid (or a smartalecky adult) to pick out of the background. My son loved this book and so did I. I would heartily recommend it. I will actively seek out other books by Simms Tayback.

Summary: There was an old Lady who Swallowed a Fly
Review: There was an old Lady who Swallowed a Fly by Simms Taback is an excellent book. It expands the imagination of children so they can enhance their learning skills. Given the ability to see directly into the old lady's stomach will attract their small little eyes. Vibrant colors stand out against the black back round to allow each and every swallowed animal to appear more important. Reading There was an old Lady who Swallowed a Fly would create a wonderful memory and a child who loves to read because of the rhyming and well-written vocabulary. Although children will love to read it, age six is a reasonable age for them to handle the book in their own tiny hands. However, there is no child too you to read and enjoy this book.

Summary: A real attention grabber
Review: This book is a must have for families with young children. First, it has wonderfully original illustrations. You can see how the old lady and the creatures in her stomach look after each new meal. The colors are bright. There are many details so that new things are discovered each time the book is read.

Secondly, the story is just disgusting and scary enough to catch the attention of the most distracted child. The idea of a lady swallowing bugs and animals is fascinating. The fact that she dies is also very interesting - but not depressing - to kids.

Highly recommended!

Summary: An old favourite updated
Review: This die cut board book is wonderful and
fun with preschoolers. But most of the reviews and
comments on this ISBN refer to a different
edition (ISBN 0859537277, by Simms Taback ). Be sure
to note the difference.
