Summary: Homeschoolers love this book!
Review: ... loves Matthew Gollub's books. The illustrations are unique and beautiful and we love the way Matt introduces children to jazz and other forms of music. We highly recommend both "Jazz Fly" and "Gobble, Quack, Moon."

Summary: This Fly is Jammin'!
Review: As a teacher, I am always searching for quality literature to supplement and boost my curriculum. This book is amazing! Not only is it an enchanting story, it encourages children to think creatively. The introduction of "scat" singing encourages language play and rhyming in new ways. The accompanying CD enabled the children to appreciate Jazz, exposing them to the actual sounds and combinations of the instruments. My class embraced this story and made it their own, retelling it over and over again. As a parent, I was thrilled when my own children discovered Jazz, thanks to The Jazz Fly. They now enjoy identifying various instruments and are eager to learn more about music. This is an upbeat, positive addition to library!

Summary: Hoppin' Jazz Bugs'
Review: Be prepared to be swept away by a charming fly, dressed in formal attire, on his way to a nightclub. The words and illustrations jump off the page as this 'Jazz Fly' encounters a variety of animals speaking different 'languages'. You and your children, as did mine, will be inspired by the creativity and enjoy the countless ways to read this book.

Just when you think it can't get any better, enclosed is a CD where the author reads his own version of the story and accompanies it to some hoppin' music.

Summary: The Jazz Fly is a real Za-ba do-da roni!
Review: I am a teacher in a 3/4 combo class of English Language Learners (native Spanish speakers). I also have 5 year old triplet girls at home. I was fortunate enough to see Matthew Gollub speaking at a teacher's convention and was really enthralled with his animated way of getting the audience in. I ended up buying three of his books. The Jazz Fly was a big hit with my own children. They loved the version I read (although I can't do it justice) and the version on the CD by Mr. Gollub. I can't wait to use this book in my classroom for my music unit!

Summary: It's not just for older kids!
Review: I thought my husband was crazy when he ordered this book. Our 2 boys are 3 and 2, and I thought they were just too young for it. As a band director, he's always introducing the kids to every aspect of music. There's a lot of books to introduce children's songs and classical music, but this is the first one we've found on Jazz. The boys have asked for this book every night since we got it (about 1 month ago). They take turns being the different characters and playing their respective instruments. It's so catchy, I find myself singing the words quite often throughout the day.

Summary: One of my Favorite Stories to read/listen to with my kids.
Review: My daughter and I had the pleasure of seeing Matthew Gollub when he visited her school about a year and a half ago. Matthew read the Jazz fly to a gymnasium full of spell bound children who sat quietly and axiously as he read the story his way. To this day, I try to re-capture his level of enthousiam when I read the story to my children. I still end up playing the CD for them, even after we have finished reading, just so they get the same enjoyment as that wonderful day at her school. I purchased this book and another he read (then autographed) the same day he visted her school. I now enjoy sharing his stories with my nieces, nephews and children of our friends.

Summary: great combination of pictures and music. Smashing!
Review: The book and its CD (included in the book) are great. The story is something in between McDonald's farm and the town musicians of Bremen, well even better, I should say. A fly has to find the way to a jazz club. Animals on the way have to help with directions. The music (of course, jazz) and the story are both captivating. My daughter is 3 and half and she loves it very much. Maybe too much. Now it is difficult to find something else that can keep her so involved.
However, there is a little catch. The CD lasts much less than 10 minutes and the book is difficult to read if you are not a jazz music player. So you have to rely entirely on the CD (for this the book would deserve a 3 star).
Anyway beautiful!!

Summary: The Jazz Fly
Review: This book includes an audio CD tucked into the front cover -- the story accompanied by music. My kids (ages 6 and 2) encountered the audio version before they saw the book, and loved it. It's got an excitement and rhythm that makes them both dance. The words are fun and easy to memorize, although the kids remain tickled that Dad can't get the scat lines straight. Za baza boo zaba . . . The book adds really fun visuals to the mix. Like the jazz-drumming fly in this book, the CD and book combo "put it all together and served it out hot."

Summary: Greatest book ever
Review: This book keeps all 7 of my children entertained daily. One is 14. A book that can keep a 14 year old entertained is gold. This narrative is written wonderfully and the illustrations are delightful. I heartily recommend this book to people with children of any age.
