Rating: Summary: Prof. Fred Gwynne introduces you to the joys of homophones Review: Tommy Smothers once declared "words to me are play things," and I have pretty much taken that as gospel every since. That is why books like "The King Who Rained," one of a trio of books by the beloved actor Fred Gwynne dealing with the joy of homophones, are such a joy. Who would not want to live in a magical kingdom where the farmers could always rely on the water provided by a king who rained? My advice is to try and ignore the words when you flip each page and see if you can guess what Gwynne has come up with next. Certainly these books are perfect aides for teachers introducing young students to the wonderful and wacky world of homophones. The fun part is thinking up creative ways of how to reveal each of these utterly charming examples on your unwary cherubs. Even better, this will trick them into thinking English is fun.
