Review: I like the book More Than Anything Else because I think it is cool how this kid gets a book and doesn't know how to read and just copies what the book says. Chris Soentpiet must be an extraordinary illustrator to draw such outstanding pictures. These pictures must have been very hard to draw.

Review: I liked Chris Soentpiet's magnificent books. They are very detailed. I wish I could draw like him. Out of all of the books he has strongly illustrated, the wonderful book I liked the most was More Than Anything Else. The pictures were also colorful. I liked the interesting part when the little boy drew the alphabet in the dark cold sand. This book is a book for all ages. I would like to make the time to read ALL of his super books.

Review: I read the book More Than Anything Else and thought it was great! I really liked the pictures and the colors and the technique Chris Soentpiet chose because they really matched the words and the story. The book was based on Booker T. Washington's time as a kid. I really liked the drawing when the little boy was writing with the stick on his dirt floor. I think Chris Soentpiet is an excelent illustrator.

Review: The book More Than Anything Else is an outstanding, life like book. I know his pictures are drawn from looking at models. Chris's books are the most impressive books I've ever seen. He is the most brilliant artist. I love all his books. In this book, a boy named Booker T. Washington wants to read but he doesn't know how. It shows how he spells out his ABCS. In the morning, he knows how to read. That's why I picked this book to review. I think it should receive 5 stars!

Summary: Good read for Black History Month or Reading Month
Review: This beautifully illustrated book follows the story of a young black boy who wants - more than anything else - to be able to read. He works with his father in the salt mines and listens at night to the wonder of the man in the camp who reads aloud from the newspaper to the others who cannot read it for themselves. The identity of the young boy is revealed on the last page. I use this book in the fall in a unit on the importance of reading. I follow with the challenge of avoiding TV and video games from Sunday through Friday. Quite a challenge today.

Summary: More Than Anything else
Review: To want something more than anything else is a powerful beginning to a writing assignment. Whether it is reading, or another desire, when combined with voice and word choice and organized in the same manner as this book, it becomes a springboard to the future, for ourselves and our students. Read it to your children and help them look to and find their future. Write your own story...What do you want....more than anything else?
