Rating: Summary: Pinkwater is warming up here Review: By normal kids' books standards, this is uncommonly hilarious and subversive. Some of Pinkwater's later books are far more so... but maybe they're for a bit of an older audience.
Rating: Summary: The only Lizard book that ever launched a revolution Review: For every kid who ever felt like he was a bit different fromthe rest of the pack, or just liked lizards that could play jazz music, this is the book. Daniel Pinkwater has written a slew of fantastic children's books and this is one of his best. Kids will identify with Victor and wish they could meet their own Chicken Man. It's no wonder that this is the book that launched the loosely organized (and slightly dangerous) Pinkwater fan club, Lizard Lovers. Sure it was a good idea for a way to get middle school kids to read, but try to explain that to the principal after he found a toilet in the trophy case. A definite must read.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read Review: I love this book. I loved it when I was ten, I loved it when I was twenty, and I still love it now that I'm thirty. It's one of those books that just sticks with you. I have named several pets Reynold in honor of the lizards. Someday I will get my raft and a chicken and find the lizards for myself. Daniel Pinkwater is a comic genius and his books should be required reading for any child with a sense of humor.
Rating: Summary: Read this book about 15 yrs ago Review: I read this book about 15 yrs ago when I was in Elementary, and I loved it. Even as a little kid, I had a weird sense of humor, and this book appealed to that bizarre little brain of mine. I dug it, and I still think every kid should read it. If they don't like it, they will grow up to be boring and humourless adults. Some boy I went to school with did a book report on this book every year from 2nd grade until middle school.
Rating: Summary: For Children of All Ages Review: I remember the day that I found this book vividly. The cover was more aesthetic than all the other books in the library, and, peering at the title, I figured I like lizards and I like music. I fell in love with this book shortly thereafter. It's been almost a decade later and I have since read books that have surpassed this in intellectual levels, but its oddness still appeals to me. This is an obscure classic that belongs on the shelves next to Dr. Doolittle and Alice in Wonderland, other favorites from my past. It is difficult to describe this book beyond touting its greatness in vague terms, it is something to be experienced on ones own. To summarize shortly, it is the story of a boy left home alone and his adventure in the big city as he meets the Chicken Man, and sates his curiosity concerning the wacky lizard musicians he comes across. Whether you are young or old, this book will appeal to your creativity and your sense of absurdity.
Rating: Summary: This is the coolest book ever! Review: I started reading Daniel Pinkwater books when I was 7. The first book I read was Lizard Music. I like it the best. I think it's cool because it's a magical book and I like magic.
Rating: Summary: Lizard Music is the Bomb Review: Lizard Music is a must read for people around 10-12. If you like comedy and/or suspence you'll love this book. First you meat a kid named Victor a 12 year old. His parents have left on a vacation and so has his sister so he's all alone. After watching the late late night movie he sees the strangest thing LIZARDS PLAYING MUSIC! Later he sees the strangest man known as Chicken Man who keeps a Chicken named Cluadia under his hat. With the help of Chicken Man he goes to an Invisible island with a wonderous city with the strangest sights you've ever seen. The ending is the best but you'll have to read the book to hear it. So as I said bever READ THIS BOOK!, you'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: READ THIS and you'll never regret it! Review: Mr. Pinkwater is a genius! I must have read this book a million times, and I am only thirteen. This and Alan Mendelsohn: Boy From Mars are my favorite books of Mr. Pinkwater's. This book sparked interests in my friends and I of lizards and corn muffins. Every time I read this I enjoy the adventures of The Chicken Man (a.k.a. Charlie Swan and a lot of other things), his hen Claudia, and Victor, a (somewhat) ordinary kid. I love the humorous happenings (i.e., the Lizards doing a take-off of Groucho Marx's You Bet Your Life) and the twisted plot! This book is for EVERYONE!
Rating: Summary: Lizard Music Review: The book that i am going to tell you about is called Lizard Music. It was a pretty good book. The setting of Lizard Music is in more than one place. The setting helps to make the story more exciting because because where victor goes is a little weird. Especially the the people. The Chicken man was a really weird character. He would walk around with his chicken Claudia on his head. Victor the main characterwent from being a scared little boy to a brave little boy. In the beginning he kept on getting scared because ke kept on seeing lizards all over the place. In the end he didn't mind seeing the lizards. I think that the moral of this book is do not judge a book by it's cover because the cover that I saw was a really boring cover, but if I saw the new cover I would probably want to read it. It ended up being a good book though. The end of the story ended up being very predictable. If Victor kept on seeing lizards everywhere then you could assume that he was going to meet them.
Rating: Summary: Incredible and mind-bending story. Review: This is one of those books that you read, and because of its originality, it makes a lasting impression and you never forget it. I, like many other reviewers first read this book in the third or fourth grade. Our little private Catholic school got two D.M. Pinkwater books added to the library, and everybody in my class wanted to read them. I actually wanted the other, Fat Men From Space, but it was taken, so I picked up Lizard Music. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made! This book is amazing, it's funny, fascinating, and very strange. Everything from the Chicken Man to Raymond the Lizard(s), to some island made invisible because of... refraction of light... or something. (It's been a while.) Anyway, my point is, this book has made a great and long-lasting impression on me, and if you like strange and semi-eerie things, or just great fiction... this is a MUST READ!
