Rating: Summary: Lame Review: I am a theater teacher at an international school. I read the reviews and bought the book in anticipation of using it with my 8th grade students. I was too embarrassed to bring it out. The monologues in the book were awful. The funny ones fell flat, and the dramatic ones made me gag. They were so stereotypically sappy. This book might be okay to use with younger children, but I would never use it with my middle schoolers.
Rating: Summary: These monologues are fun to act out! Review: I am in seventh grade and I like this book because it helps kids who want to become actors or actresses. The monologues are easy to read and fun to act out. My favorite monologue is "Craig." It is about a boy who goes to summer camp and his parents have deserted him. Maybe that will be your favorite monologue but you have to buy the book first.
Rating: Summary: magnificent monolougues for kids isn't so magnificent.... Review: i got this book to use in acting classes... I could not find ONE thing that wasn't completely idiodic. If I had used ANYTHING from this book I would have been laughed out of the theatre. DO NOT GET THIS BOOK! it is really, really stupid. All of the monolouges in these book are originals, written by the author, you won't find any classics or monolougues from books it's just a big load of garbage that the author came up with. the only thing I found to be useful was the thing in the back, the glossery of show business terms and the diagram of a theatre, but other than that the book was horrible do NOT buy it for your kid(s)it is a waste of money and you will regret it! two thumbs DOWN!
Rating: Summary: This book is the best! Review: I needed to find a monologue for myself for school, and this was a chock full of great ones. This is great for kids in 5-8th grades and really fun to just fool around with your friends with.
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining and appropriate monologues for children Review: I'm 11 and I love Magnificent Monologues for Kids. I have used monologues out of this book to do commercial, film, and stage auditions. He writes like kids speak. Casting directors are always asking me "where did you get that monologue?". I have booked national commericals and films using Chambers monologues. Chambers ROCKS!
Rating: Summary: magnificent monolougues for kids isn't so magnificent.... Review: I'm a 6th grade theatre student who has recently become serious about acting. I found this book while looking for monologs for an upcoming drama contest. I totally disagree with Chambers Stevens about his opinion on kids' monologs now a days. I think kids should just use adult monologs and edit the bad parts out instead of "acting" like kids using his monologs. Aside from the fact that they are about the stupidist subjects, it doesn't take ANY acting skill to perform them. Who cares if you can act like a sterotypical kid? I've seen these monologs performed at contests and they are 1. too short and 2. not very entertaining. The jokes need serious help and the dramatics are too stupid too even consider them dramatic. If you want good monologs, I reccomend books geared towards adults. The beginning of The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe is awesome and got me a 97 out of 100 at last the contest because the material was actually funny. Now I will be performing Misreadings with one of my friends, wish me luck! :)
Rating: Summary: This book is a kid's ticket to success! Review: I've looked for a gold-mine like this for years. MAGNIFICENT MONOLOGUES provides kids a source book of incredibly unforgettable monologues that actually grow with them as they gain skill and maturity. It's a parent's dream! A drama teacher's fantasy come true! And best of all, it's fun and easy to use. The author really seems to know kids-how they talk, how they think through things. All the monologues are great. A wide range of emotions, too.My niece used one of these MAGNIFICENT MONOLOGUES and signed with a manager immediately! It really is kid friendly. There's a section for boys and one for girls. The bibliography is great too because it lists monologues as dramatic or comedic. There's even some for animals! The section on Need-to-Know Hollywood words and definitions is really helpful. And the straight talk about acting basics is right-on-the-money. I've been an actress for 20+ years and have seen and performed my share of monologues. So I know that the motivated child star will out-shine his or her competition when using any one of the monologues in this book. BUY IT!
Rating: Summary: WOW CHAMBERS IS A GENIUS Review: If there was a Nuclear Holocaust And you could only save one book this is it. I Carry it with me everwhere. Rating: Summary: Chambers Stevens Is So Cool Review: If you could save one book from destruction during a nuclear explosion, Magnificant Monolouges for Kids is that book. Not Since James Joyce has such Genius and insight been in a book. Chambers deals with many issues facing today's kids including: Being a Dog, Being A Cat, Fighting a dragon, being a princess, being a model, ect. If you don't believe me about the absolute GENIUS, of his words, just read this sample:" I am the Volleyball Queen" Isn't that so moving? And though Chambers would never admit it (He Is Incredebly Modest) This is a really good, no great book. Read it. Tell your friends to read it, ...
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining and appropriate monologues for children Review: My son attends a prestigious drama school and they've used monologues from this book as teaching tools for their classes. I bought my son a copy, and even though he has no intention of being an actor (drama school is just for fun for him), he's felt comfortable enough to perform monologues at his school and always gets huge applause. The monologues "sound" like children's voices, they're age appropriate and entertaining. They make it easy for any child to succeed performing -- very confidence building.
