Rating: Summary: Awsome historical fiction Review: This is one of my favorite books ever. I read it a few years ago (in 8th grade), and am still looking for another racehorse book like it. Farley throws you into the story of a colt and his groom. Although in real life, Danny didn't exist, "Red" did and the information on the horse and his races is true. It gives all of the history without getting boring and sounding like a History book. I think everyone who even just likes horses should read it.
Rating: Summary: Hello to the girls & Guys at Hobo Farms Review: 1970, the summer before my 3rd yr in high school I moved to work and live on a Thoroughbred farm in Ocala Fla. I was to exercise horses on a full size track. The farm was owned by Kodak Camera Company, Hobo Farms. There were several young woman in their early 20's at the barn I was to work in. I had missed meeting Walter Farley. The girls looked for themselves in his Black Stallion books and I always thought he had written about one of them, a spunky tiny thing who looked no bigger than a 5 year old on the big horses. Needless to say we had read all Farley's books and Man 'O War was by far the best. I never understood why it never became a movie for Man 'O War was written with the brilliance of a Walt Disney story. Do you remember 'The Horse With the Flying Tail'?
Rating: Summary: Good read, but may be historically misleading Review: As a longtime ardent Man o'War fan (which I admit was precipitated at least in part by reading this very same book in childhood) I found myself enjoying the book immensely for what it is: A semi-fictional account of the greatest thoroughbred to ever pound a track. There are some interesting points of fact that Farley neglects to include in the story. One is the fact that neither Riddle nor Feustal were present at the purchase of Man o'War (unlike as depicted in the book), but sent an agent, who was single handedly responsible for the bid of $5,000.00 that brought the gangly red colt home. Another is this: Farley describes the sole defeater of Man o' War, Upset, as a colt "Who lived up to his name". In reality, the popular sports term "upset" (when an unlikely team or competitor defeats a favorite) was coined entirely due to this one race! It was still a fantastic and personable look into the life of a racehorse, however one should keep in mind that historically accurate biographies of Man o'War's life are exciting enough without the fictionalized "fluff".
Rating: Summary: An incredible book about an incredible horse. Review: I first read Man O' War in grade school. I'm still reading it now in college. The story of Man O' War moved me so much that I have researched his life in depth and am writing a report on what I fully believe was, is, and will be the greatest horse ever to breathe. I can't thank Walter Farley enough for bringing the past alive and sharing the beauty of racing.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: I have been a fan of thoroughbred racing since the age of 13 (21 years now!) and I absolutely loved this book when I was a boy. I recently purchased a new copy of this book in the gift shop at the Kentucky Horse Park wondering if I would still appreciate this book by the author of the Black Stallion series, which I also avidly read as a child (and which I also think can be enjoyed as a horse crazy adult.) This book has lost none of it's beauty and grace even as I read it as a 34 year old adult. I have been to Saratoga several times and can envision Man O' War's first time on the track as Farley wrote it; his descriptive powers are at their height in this book. It is really a timeless book about a truly timeless thoroughbred champion. This book can be enjoyed on many different levels by readers of all ages. If you are a horse enthusiast and/or racing fan, I would strongly recommend giving this a read.

Rating: Summary: Man o' War, an AMAZING Thoroughbred Champion!!! Review: I'm 15 years old and just want to say that this novel is not just for the children. I am an avid equestrian and found this book in our school library, I read it three times! I adore this book, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps your interest the whole way through. The style that it was written in was superb. My only complaint is that it had to end!
Rating: Summary: "Big Red"always will be the greatest horse now and forever Review: Im in fifth grade now, and I've read this book at least five times and each time it leaves me thinking:what if Man O War hadnt retired? He certainly would have swept the nation and other countries as well. Before I read Man O' War, I never looked into the past and remembered the old champions. But after readind this book, I have realized that the old racehorses will be forgotten after their death, and no longer will people look back and see him as the true champion he is....but Man O' War will be remembered always, as the racehorse with the power, speed, and heart to win it all, as the one and only true champion.
Rating: Summary: A touching Story that EVERYONE will love Review: This book has to be one of my most favorite books. It is such an inspiring tale of a boy named Danny who grows up with a foal/horse starting with it's birth to its death. AFter reading this book, all I wanted to do was to see him race! It is also so descriptive that you can almost picture it in your mind.
Rating: Summary: Man o' War, an AMAZING Thoroughbred Champion!!! Review: This was the best book I've ever read!! If you love horses, horseracing and Man o' War, I highly recomend this book! Even if you don't have an interest in horses, you would still love this book! It's about Man o' War from the night he was foaled, to the tragic day he died... It gives you full details of his races, winning an astonishing 20 of his 21 starts..The race he lost, I think was unfair! (Read to find out!!) It tells alittle about some winners he sired..I learned a lot about this amazing Champion from reading this book...There is soOo much more I can say about this book..but I want you to read to find out!! ENJOY IT!! I KNOW YOU WILL!!*
