Summary: Trouble in the Sleepy, Slimy Marsh.....
Review: "Down by the marsh, by the sleepy, slimy marsh, one duck gets stuck in the muck, down by the deep green marsh. Help! Help! Who can help? We can! We can!" Maybe two splish, splish fish, three clomp, clomp, moose, four pleep, pleep crickets, or five plop, plop frogs can help that poor old stuck duck. And if they can't get the job done, how about six plunk, plunk skunks, seven sloosh, sloosh snails, eight slosh, slosh possums, nine slink, slink snakes, or ten zing, zing dragonflies? It looks like that duck may be stuck for good until his many friends combine forces and help him out of the muck together..... Phyllis Root's thoroughly entertaining counting book is filled with rhyme, silly wordplay, lots of energy, and wonderful sound effects that make learning numbers and practicing counting a snap for preschoolers, and her engaging, repetitious refrain lets little ones join in and "read along." Jane Chapman's busy, bright, and boldly colorful illustrations are rich in humorous detail and just add to the fun. Together this dynamic duo have authored a marvelous, interactive romp, that's sure to become a classic in the future, and a soon to be favorite in your house right now.

Summary: VERY CUTE
Review: A fun book with bright colorful pictures. My son loves to help "read" the book's repeating sentence - HELP HELP WHO CAN HELP?. A nice happy ending as all the animals work together to help the duck.

Summary: It's ABRIDGED!
Review: All the charm of the original, and all the clever rhymns, are left OUT of the board book version. I LOVE the original, and was so excited to see a board book edition, until I started to read it aloud to my twin toddlers. Get the original, paper version. It's SO CUTE!

Summary: GREAT!
Review: Great Book! My 3 year old loves it. She makes up games and says words and phrases from this book months after we borrowed it from the local library. Great Buy! Everyone needs a copy of this book! I even like it!

Summary: Board Book Edition ONLY - regular edition gets 5 stars
Review: I checked this book out of the library and my daughter and I loved it. So, I ordered the board book version for her (she's 1 1/2), and found that a good 1/2 of the book is cut out. I'm returning it and getting the regular edition. So, if you like the toungue twisting verses, don't buy the board book.

Summary: One Duck Stuck everywhere wonderful!
Review: I have read this book to my children and all the neighborhood children! I have even brought this book into their classrooms when I was asked to read to the class. I made up flash cards for them to holler out the "help, help" etc. The students just LOVED it and by the end of the book they were all joining in! GREAT fun!! for all ages!

Summary: A great way to teach number concepts!
Review: I used this colorfully illustrated book to review counting with my students. They enjoyed reviewing their numbers as well as hearing the sing-song verse. It was a great way to warm up for a math lesson on counting groups of objects. Each page had a numbered grouping of animals that was easy to count.

Summary: Board book not the same as the original
Review: It didn't take long for my 2 1/2 year old son to start saying the words along with me. He loves saying the numbers and " stuck in the muck...". It is written in an amusing and rythmic fashion, so it is easy to read and remember. I originally got the book from the library, and my son loved it so much, I bought it. But, unfortunately, the board book is so abridged, that it leaves out all of the fun word play. Go for the original book. It will be a hit with any kid.

Summary: A fast favorite with my toddler.
Review: My one year loves books - but not just any books. They have to be quick paced (to keep up with his fast page turning), have colorful and interesting illustrations, and have a repetitive but catchy story-line.

ONE DUCK STUCK delivers on all three counts and became a favorite the day we got it. The cheerful rhyme "no luck, still stuck" repeats on almost ever page, the story is cute with a good moral (all the animals work together to free the stuck duck) and the pictures are vibrant and interesting to the youngest of readers. We own tons of books but this is one of my son's top four and is re-read time and time again without him losing interest.
