Rating: Summary: ALL ALONE Review: Author: Gordon Korman Pages: 128 Genre: Adventure Setting: Unknown IslandThe setting of Island is on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean. The characters are Luke, J.J., Will, Lyssa, Charia, and Ian. Luke likes to make fun of people. He has tried to abandon the team by escaping. Their main problem is that a big storm on a boating trip hits them and the kids are the only ones to survive, but they are shipwrecked. They need to work together to think of ideas and ways to survive. Will comes up with an idea to get logs and spell HELP. Then they start a fire because the smoke will direct airplanes and helicopters to the island. This series is predictable because the main characters always seem to live and have a happy ending. I can guess that book three's ending will be when the team gets rescued. The sequel title would be The Shipwreck Curse! I would recommend this book to any book reader that enjoys adventures. Korman's other series, Everest, was also a thriller! My favorite part is when Luke scares J.J. I like Korman's style of writing because it is exciting and intense. If I was the main character I would have started a fire and draw a picture in the sand of people getting shipwrecked so they know what happened. This book reminded me of the movie STRANDED.
Rating: Summary: Island Review: I rated this book 4 stars. The reason is I like it but it's not the best book I've ever read. I thought Island was a really good book! I liked how it ended, because you need to read the 2nd book to find out what happens. The book's about 6 kids, Lyssa, Will, Ian, Luke, J.J., and Charla, that go on a boat because they have done bad things, watched too much t.v. , and is too perfect. When the captain gets hit by the mainmast and goes into the ocean during a storm, the 6 kids are left with Mr. Radford, the boat's first mate. Mr. Radford leaves the kids on the boat because he knows it's sinking. When the boat catches on fire, they have to get off it. So, they're in the sea and four of them are together, but I won't tell you how it ends. I enjoyed reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Six kids are about to have the most unforgettable summer. Review: Luke, JJ, Ian, Will, Charla, and Lyssa are six kids on a ship 'camp' for one reason - they're from troubled backgrounds, and this is how they'll have to spend their summer. Instead of having a fabulous sunny summer, they'll have to depend on teamwork and do some labor, something any kid would dread of doing for their summer. Even though they'll have to make the best of it, and avoid their bossy ordering adult "Rat-face", they don't know that their fates are about to play out the way they could have never imagined. When a sudden storm hits the ship, sending the kids and the other boarders on the ship scrambling, they have to not only depend each other, but survive. They'll have to save each others' lives no matter what, because if they lose even one kid's life, there may never be hope in store for them in the terrifying sea. Island #1:Shipwreck is the heart stopping and funny adventurous first book in this amazing new trilogy by the wonderful Gordon Korman. Though it is more of a serious adventure story, Gordon Korman, who I'm not surprised at, added some hilarious humor here and there in the story. Gordon Korman fans and readers of Peter Lerangis's ANTARCTICA two-book epic story will undoubtedly savor his latest adventure-filled, danger-filled book, though I wish it was a little longer.
Rating: Summary: Exciting adventure Review: My 9 year old 3rd grader (girl) read this book and found it thrilling. (So of course I had to read it too!) She can't wait to read the 2nd book. A bit reminiscent of "Holes" (though not of the literary quality/depth), a group of kids, each with a unique situation, is sent on a sailboat trip to learn teamwork. Disaster (after disaster) strikes and they are in a struggle for their lives.
Rating: Summary: The first book in a thrilling new trilogy. Review: Six kids are thrown together against their will on a small boat that will make a one-month journey on the Pacific Ocean. None of them want to be here, and all have been sent for different reasons. Luke is taking his only choice besides being sent to a juvenile detention facility for a crime he didn't commit. Will and Lyssa are quarreling siblings sent by their parents, who hope the trip will teach them to get along better. J.J. was sent by a movie-star father after he pulled one two many pranks. Ian's parents hoped to cure him of his TV addiction, and Charla was sent after she mysteriously lost her athletic abilities - what the doctor called a "burnout." But these six totally different kids are going to have to learn to work together to survive a vicious storm and a shipwreck that leaves them stranded in the middle of the ocean with no food, no water, and almost no hope for survival. This thrilling new trilogy is off to a great start. I can't wait to read the next two books.
Rating: Summary: ISLAND Book One : SHIPWRECK Review: This book as one of the most adventuress novels I have ever read. It was most exciting when Captain Callahan died because of all of the chaos that went on. The reason that I rated this book only 4 stars was because the ending was not very exciting, they got on the island and that was it the end. I think it would have been better if the author would have made some mention of Will regaining his consciousness. I also think it was very good when the villain, Mr. Radford, left the kids marrooned on the sinking ship, because that is when the kids had to depend on themselves for survival instead of some other person. I really enjoyed this book and recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure from 10-16.
