The Jolly Mon

Review: As an elementary school music teacher, I have used this book with a variety of age groups. It's a great book, and I use it with my fourth graders every year. The kids love it, but buying the CD with the song on it (Parakeet Album: Song of Jimmy Buffett) is a must!

Summary: BEAUTIFUL
Review: Both Jimmy Buffett's story and the illustrations are so beautiful. This story of the jolly mon, and his adventures(such as maybe Buffett himself may have or has had already) in the sea is a real treat.
While it is marketed for children, as a Parrotthead myself, I think all Buffett fan's could enjoy this. He has added the lyrics to his song, Jolly Mon, in the back of the book as well.
Like all other stories, this has it's good guys and bad, and conflict. I think that is the way Jimmy Buffett writes, which is so honest and down to earth. This is as good as any song he's written, maybe even better. I was so moved by the ending, I cried.
I am not going to give anything away, but this story has a great message.
I think this is a great addition to the library of books I am building for my children.
My son is only 1 year old, and while he doesn't really pay attention nor understand what I am saying. He was entranced by the illustration.
The artist, Lambert Davis, did a wonderful job of capturing the characters and the places that Jolly Mon visits.
This is definitely worth buying!

Review: I fell in love with this book years ago and couldn't wait to pass it on to my children.I picked it up recently and my 6 year old wants me to read it every day. She has been a parakeet since birth (in utero even) and loves everything that Jimmy sings and writes.

Review: I ordered this for my niece, I read it and it is wonderful! I will be puchasing another copy for my child as well. This book takes your imagination far away to Bananaland where things are peaceful and happy! If only the real world could be so wonderful. This tale will delight readers of all ages! Buffett has done a great job with his awesome imagination! All of his books are a breath of fresh air for the weary mind. He should write more than he does! And Lambert Davis did a great job with his colorful images, you felt like Bananaland was real!

Review: I read the book to my 3 year old son and he just loved it. Now he wants me to read it every night before bed. Jimmy's tales of life on the sea are amazing, even for a child of three.

Review: It is a rare book that both parents and small children can enjoy together equally, and The Jolly Mon is one of them. My 3 year old daughter and I have shared The Jolly Mon together dozens of times, and it just keeps getting better for both of us. We both love the great positive, uplifting story and the fantastic Caribbean style illustrations. Do your kids a favor and take them on a sail with The Jolly Mon!

Review: My parents are parrot-heads, I'm a parrot-head, and my newborn son will be a parrot-head too! This fun to read book will be the first story I tell my boy. It is a story that's filled with love and sadness, adventure and companionship, evil pirates and magical creatures. If you've heard the song, you MUST own the book.

Review: Okay, so I read this book as an adult, but it didn't take long for some of the magic of childhood to come creeping back to me through the pages. This is a children's story the way they used to make 'em, full of whimsy, magic, and good deeds. Follow the Jolly Mon on a delightful yet purposeful journey, spreading happiness as he goes. The illustrations are beautiful and capture the vivid colors of the Carribbean and a child's imagination. This is a great book for kids of all ages. Just be prepared to smile, because once the Jolly Mon has passed your way, it'll be impossible not to.

Summary: Lovely Kids Book
Review: We purchased this book about 3 years ago when my daughter was very young, we read it to her and she loved the brightly colored pictures and images of fish, sea, funny men with coconut hats etc. Now that she is older and can understand the story we still read it and it is one of her favorites. It isn't just a fluffy children's book, it contains, fantasy, danger, death (although not in detail), travel, pirates, mystery and to top it all off it is beautifully illustrated. The characters are all uniquely drawn, the situations really stir the imagination. The Buffets can certainly spin a good one!
