Summary: Phoenix Rising review
Review: I have recently finished reading the book, Phoenix Rising. It is a book that is easy reading, and I'd highly recomend it to the junior high level readers. Nyle, is at her home when a local nuclear power plant explodes, and leaks radiation. Ezra moves into Nyle's house after being affected by the radiation. Through Ezra's recovery, Nyle slowly falls in love with him and they become great friends. Nyle goes through a great amount of turmoil throughout this book. Tragically, Nyle realizes how painful life can be.
This book sheds light on what all would happen to the natural enviornment and to people's lives if there really was a nuclear power plant explosion.

Summary: Jesse James's review
Review: I would say this was the second best book I read. It includes drama, action, and is very informational. It has great falling and rising action. The book is fiction, but has non-fiction events. The book has a great climax. The characters really interact and help each other stay alive and fight the radiation. The book tells about what radiation can really do to you and the enviroment. The book really makes you think about it and puts images in your mind. Friendships fall apart and reunite. The book shows how hard it is to get through life. The accident at cookshire causes Erza to get radiation sickness. Nyle and Gran have to take care and keep Ezra and his mother until the radiation dies down.

Summary: What a GREAT book!
Review: In the novel Pheonix Rising, by Karen Hesse, Nyle and her grandmother live on a sheep farm near a nuclear plant that has a radiation leak. They take in two evacuees, a boy, Ezra, about Nyle's age, and his mother. Ezra has soaked an unhealthy amount of radiation, having lived near the plant, and now his mother, Nyle, and Nyle's grandmother are basically trying to make Nyle's death as comfortable as possible. Nyle doesn't want anything to do with Ezra, she doesn't want to feel the pain of his death. But when she develops a friendship with him, and he starts to slowly recover, she begins to get used to having Ezra around.
This book was very moving and well-written. It really opens the reader's eyes to the dangers of our world today. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of this story is that the situation described could easily happen to of us today; a horrible life in a book could easily become a nightmare of reality. Imagine a world where you can't leave your house without wearing a gauze mask to prevent breathing in radiation. Where the thousands of people living within a 5 mile radius around a nucleur power plant are infected with a deadly disease instantly, and have to leave everything they own behind, and seek refuge with total strangers. Where hospitals are filled to capacity with patients waiting to die. This was where Nyle and Ezra had to live, and where we could easily live, too. It's scary to think about the seriousness of this novel.
I personally liked the author's writing style. The action moves quickly, and the relationships between the characters are well-developed. The author's vivid descriptions help to convey a sense of urgency to the audience.
I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what kind of book you like, because this book can be classified as a romance, a sciens fiction, and even a tear-jerker. It's a quick, easy read, and everyone should receive the lessons this story teaches. This book will leave you thinking, and you may even feel compelled to try to make a difference in our world.
This book is well-worth the time and money to read, and I hope you'll heed my advice and read it.

Summary: great book-definantly recommend it to everyone
Review: Pheonix Rising is a great book. I would recommend it to everyone. The fight between life and death kept me reading. What would you do if one day everything is fine, then the next day every one was wearing masks, and people were dying from radiation poisoning just from going outside! Nyle is forced to cope with these conditions. Along with radiation, Nyle has to deal with Ripley, a mean bully who only teases Nyle and Muncie. Muncie is Nyle's best friend. She is deformed, so she is usually the target of discrimination. Nyle is angry at the people who worked at the nuclear power plant. That is how it all started. The plant exploded, and sent radiation all over. She is also angry at the evacuees, who got in critical condition from radiation inhalation. Then, two evacuees are sent to her house with her Grandma (Nyles mom died from cancer, and her dad left right before she died because he couldn't bear to see her die). It was her Grandma's idea. How will Nyle get through will all this? Read Pheonix Rising by Karen Hesse to find out!

Summary: PHOENIX RISING
Review: Phoenix Rising is one book I just couldn't put down. It had so much detail. I could almost feel what the character was feeling. This book was sad at some points and happy. It was mostly sad, but it was still good. When a nuclear power plant has an explosion radiation goes everywhere. Nyle, this girl that lives on a sheep, thinks that nothing else could go wrong than having evacuees at her house. The evacuees are a mother and a 15 year old boy named Ezra. Ezra is very sick and everybody thinks he going to die, but he gets better. At the end something happens that nobody would expect. The end is the saddest of all. I loved this book so much. I would recommend it to anyone. If they don't like sad books I think they will start reading them after they read this one.

Summary: Jesse James's review
Review: Phoenix Rising was a pretty good book. It's about a girl who lives in North Haversham. There was a nuclear explosion in the nearby town of Cookshire. It causes the whole town to wear gauze masks. After the radiation clears up, an evacuee and his mother come and stay at Nyle's house. The evacuee's name is Ezra. He is really sick with radiation poisoning, and a little more will kill him. At first, Nyle is afraid to go and see him. Then she starts to go every night to read to him. She starts to like him as he gets better and better. She becomes attached, and she thinks she'll never have to let go and doesn't know what to do if she does.
This was a pretty good book. It got a little boring in the middle because it was mostly Nyle's emotions. That's the only thing I didn't like. Phoenix Rising is great for those who don't like a ton of action, but like a little bit. Phoenix Rising was different because all the action was at the beginning (the nuclear explosion) and the end (the fight with Ripley Powers).
Phoenix Rising will break your heart! I could have cried a river reading about a boy so sick with so much will and heart! He couldn't have done it without Nyle. She truly was a hero On a scale of 1-5, I rate this book a 4 because of the emotional effect. You'll rate it the same. Maybe even higher! :)

Summary: The adventure of my life
Review: This book Pheonix Rising gave me the touch of friendship. I thought in the beggining I would never want to read this book. When I did I noticed it was a book that helps me understant the sick. When Ezra showed that she wasn't sick anymore and told Nyle it was because she learned how to love again it touched my heart greatly. I understood then that you shouldn't like people for how they act because they change. Now I want to read a second version of Pheonix Rising. But there isn't one. Once you read the book you really understand what Pheonix means, and why its called Pheonix Rising. It touched me greatly. I loved the book and so should you. This book showed me what loving really means. A third grade class helped me through out reading this book. They told me what Pheonix means and it helped me a lot to understand the book. Thank you third graders! Now I went to library and found all the books by Karen Hesse I love all of them! Thank you for a adventure of a life time through a book that touched me so. Pheonix Rising.
