Rating: Summary: Abby, What WILL You Do Next? Review: Abby Hayes feels alone and different in her perfect family. Her mother and father both have really hard jobs that Abby doesn't understnd, her 6 year-old brother is a genius, and her "Super Sibs" are twins who always fight and are exact opposites: one's athletic, one's academicly top of her class. And she is a "frizzy red-haired nobody." She strongly believs she is adopted. As the book flashes back in and out of Abby's journal you learn that she loves to write, her best friends are Jessica and Natalie, she HATES Brianna and Bethany, who are best friends and big pests. You also find that Abby desperatly wants to become a soccer star so she can be in the "Hayes Book Of World Records." Plus her super sib Eva (the athletic one) has never played soccer. Will Abby make it through as a soccer champ? You'll just have to read to find out! ;)
Rating: Summary: An excellent book for young girls Review: Have you ever felt singled out in your family and nobody understands? Well if you do you should read this book. It is a book about a girl around your age, who always thinks she is totally different from the rest of her family. Her name is Abby Hayes. Abby has a dream to be a great soccer player. She also wishes she weren't so different. Abby goes through some struggles in her way to becoming a soccer star. Will she succeed at her dream? Read the book to find out. I think that Anne Mazer did an excellent job on this book. I didn't really like the ending, but all in all this was a 5 star book.
Rating: Summary: THE BOOK THAT STARTED IT ALL! Review: I have read 10 books about Abby Hayes and they have all had problems, like a dull room or a dull newspaper job. But this book was the book that started it all. In the first book, we meet Abby, a fifth grader who has a superstar family. Abby has SuperSibs who can do anything from playing sports to debating to programming computers. Abby just wants to fit in! That's all she wants (except for her wish of pierced ears)! So Abby's friend, Jessica, a sporty girl who loves space and soccer, helps Abby train for the soccer team. Abby finally acheives her goal, until someting very embarrassing happens in one of the game. But it turns out all right when she sees what is in the newspaper the next day. This is a great book, so you should read this one and all of the other one to see how Abby grows up and experiences something that everyone can relate to.
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: I thought this was a great book. I felt I could identefy with the characters very well. I have just gone into fifth grade just like Abby. I also keep a journal and love creative writing! I love to read books that are a characters journal. This book was perfect becuase it was half her journal and half not. It's about a 10 year old girl who loves creative writing. Her family is perfect. She has a genious brother and twin sisters, one who has a love of sports and one who loves school (and nail polish). Abby is trying to become a soccor champion. It was a great book to read!
Rating: Summary: Kavi's book review Review: Ten-year-old Abby Hayes is utterly ecstatic at the prospect of starting fifth grade. She just knows that this will be the year that she shines in something. After all, it's hard being normal when you are related to three subersibs, your two older twin sisters who are absolutely perfect, and your younger brother who is a certified genius. Everyone in her family has proved that they are worthy to be a Hayes. Everyone, that is, except for Abby. So she decides that it's time, and plans on recording every moment of her year being declared as a true Hayes, by writing in her brand new journal every day.
In this first book in the ABBY HAYES series, Anne Mazer introduces us to a determined, intelligent young girl, who possesses many of the traits of normal 10-year-olds. Her quirky personality - collecting all different types of calendars - and worrisome thoughts are adorable, and quickly make Abby likable to middle readers, while at the same time causing readers to sympathize with her at all different times. Filled with adorable little sketches on almost every page, as well as wonderful sayings at the beginning of each chapter, EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING is sure to be a hit. Especially with new readers.
