Rating: Summary: 30 years later.... Review: 30 years later, this is the one children's book that stuck with me. Sure, I can remember books like the Cat in the Hat or Fox in Socks, but the only children's book that made a lifelong impact was Mr.Pine's Purple House. The book taught me the value of my own individuality, the beauty of my own creativity and even to perservere when misunderstood. Now that I have my own children, I will enjoy reading it to them over and over and over! Thank you Mr. Kessler for this beautiful book.
Rating: Summary: Favorite childhood book!! Review: I always thought that I loved this book because purple was my favorite color but now in my late 30's I realize that it really was the message the book delivered. This book teaches that it is o.k., even preferable, to be different than everyone else. This is a great lesson to remember as an adult today! Overall a great children's book.
Rating: Summary: I finally found it! Review: I have been searching used book stores for years for this book without luck ever since I realized that my original copy was missing. I am so happy that it has been re-released. Mr. Pine's is a story that we all need to hear as a child and again as an adult. How to rise above the desire to be like everyone else and find our own path.I will be happy to share this book with the children in my life. Incidentally, purple has been my favorite color all of my life because of its symbolic meaning in Mr. Pine's and The Color Purple.
Rating: Summary: Fond Memories Review: I recently bought this book to my 5 year old son. I have to admit that I personally am a bit bored reading this book (I am bored with the routine process with all the neighbours until the final solution of painting the house purple is found) and I also do not like the illustrations ( I like more colors....) however, I have to admit that my son loves this book (I translate the book to Hebrew as I go along) and I myself like the author's introduction ("am I Mr Pine?...") I think its quite sweet, not more then that though. So 4 stars is the average between my son and my ratings.
Rating: Summary: Fond Memories Review: Mr. Pine's Purple House was my favorite childhood book. At the tender age of four, I was partial to anything purple, but the real attraction was, and still is, the message of the story. It conveys so simply the ideas of creativity and individualism. At first, Mr. Pine's landscaping changes are copied by all on his street. Even in children's fiction, the reality of how people are so willing to jump on anyone's bandwagon rather than have an original thought of their own is there. For whatever reason, once Mr. Pine paints his house purple, his neighbors are finally inspired to paint their homes, each in their own unique color. Life and festivity are breathed into this little community because everyone went their own way, more or less. . The point is, don't be afraid to express your creativity.
Rating: Summary: This book is easy and fun to read for children. Review: My family read this book over and over when I was a child 30 years ago. I still have it and my children love it. It's a family heirloom at this point. My sister and brother both want it to keep as a rememberance of their childhood. We all agree Mr. Pine's Purple House was our favorite childhood book. (Actually, my sister can read the whole book without looking at the words!!!) Thanks!
Rating: Summary: Childhood Memories Review: This is a book I wished my mom had saved. I think Mr. Pine Fan's are a unique brand of people! My cousin and I both grew up with Mr. Pine's Purple House. It taught us to be different from anyone else. We joke about the book often, even now, when we drive down a street with all the houses looking the same. "Must be Vine Street!" It's fun to see the looks on other friends faces when they can't figure out what we are talking about. Then we have to explain ourselves, and the retell the whole story.

Rating: Summary: Mr. Kessler I wish my mom kept this book! Review: This story was my absolute favorite as a child. I only can wish that one day I will be able to share it with my kids. Not only do I wish to share this with my own children but also with the children I teach. I believe it is important to reinforce, as a role model, my love for reading, and what better way to do that through my own childhood memories. I am afraid I will never see that purple book again. We all have our favorite books, but this one was very special to me. It painted such wonderful color and creativity in my life. I do have other favorites, still published, but this was the cream of the crop for me, as they say it. I just now will know better, to keep all my childrens favorite things, because you never know when they may want to cherish it again, we only get one childhood and memories are usually our only link.
Rating: Summary: A favorite Review: This was one of my favorite books when I was a child, and my 4-year-old loves it. It's about non-conformity in an increasingly homogeneous world. When it was written in the 60's, cookie-cutter Levittown style development had taken over most everywhere. The simple 2 color (black & purple of course) illustrations are retro and charming in this age of glitzy full color. Of course, our hero Mr. Pine also paints signs...
