Rating: Summary: That's is right Review: Even though the plot itself was ok, the script was only so so. Mandie didn't seem as determined to figure out this particular mystery, which seemed out of character. You'd think she'd be extremely worried about Ms. Hope dissapearing. And there wasn't enought friction between Joe and Jonathon. I like it better when there is jealously involved. So if you aren't really into the Mandie Books, this book would be fine for you. But otherwise it isn't worth your time.
Rating: Summary: no real plot Review: If you're looking for great lititure, pass this book up. I have read all of the books in the series, and to be quite frank this one left me especialy cold. None of the characters have developed at all. Mandie herself still behaves like a six year old(she stomps her feet when she dosn't get her way) and at seemingly every chance she disobeys her elders. Lois Gladys Leppard has yet to decide weather Hilda is retarded, or can't speak english. In one book the mystery has been solved, Hilda is a Cherokee! But in this book she is back to being mentaly challenged. In this book what little plot there is is very loose, and does not further the story at all. True the mystery is solved by the last page, but it is never explained why Miss Hope had to be so secetive. In all of the other books Miss Prudence liked Mr. Chadwick. It is my opinion that the auther has lost her touch. The early books made for light, but pleasant reading. Now they leave one dissatisfied and wondering what on earth the book was even about. Another point worth mentioning is that there isn't a great deal of historical accurcy. But if you don't care about things like that, aren't looking for the next Great Childrens Classic, then this book will do.
