Rating: Summary: The Grandpa Tree Review: As a children's storyteller and a teacher of environmental issues this is a tremendous book. I would love to use this in my repretoire along with the seedlings I receive from the Weyerhaeuser Co. I have festivals across the country and with my nonprofit children's foundation this story will reach "CHILDREN" of ALL ages. When a story brings me to tears, it touches my soul. I first read this to a 7 year old boy. He knew exactly what the story was telling him. The next step for me is to take these young ones to the forest and let them actually see nature at it's best. I have experienced the beauty of "Nurse stumps" in the state of Washington. I share these experiences in my stories. This is an excellant book for us all. It is necessary to get this important message out that we may, like Grandpa Tree, remember our youth...and leave them a wonderful place to grow!
Rating: Summary: The Grandpa Tree reviewed by J.G. Review: I first found this wonderful book at the Treehaven nature camp in Northern Wisconsin. My thoughts came back to the time I spent with my Grandparents in the northwoods, and how much nature meant to them and my dad. I've been able to share this book with friends, and have received many thoughtful comments from them on how much the book meant to them too. I have a copy set aside for my own grandson to read, and hope that he will have similar memories of our time together as I have of my grandparents and parents.

Rating: Summary: A moral, but something more personal and meaningful Review: I first heard of this book when my wife's grandfather passed away. We had gathered on a glorious July day at Grandpa's cabin in the woods of central Colorado, and prepared to scatter the old man's ashes on the mountain he loved. His son, my wife's uncle, read the book as four generations listened. Grandpa's wife and their two children, their five grandchildren, and their six great-grandchildren listed to the simple story as wind whispered through the pine trees around us. A simple story, really -- and with a moral as obvious as the cover. However, in that setting, on that solemn occasion, the story also reminded us of what this one life really meant to us, and anyone who has lost a father or father-figure will be able to take away a personal message in the story. Who could fail to see a more personal meaning, and the respect that the old "tree" held in the community? As a father myself, I hope that some day someone, perhaps one of my daughters or grandchildren, will read this story to a small gathering of loved ones, and I hope that I will have honered this book by deserving to have it read over my grave.

Rating: Summary: The Grandpa Tree reviewed by J.G. Review: The Grandpa Tree is about a pine tree mighty pine tree that takes care of the younger pine trees around it. It grows up watching the smaller trees and protects them from harm. The tree saves them from being buried in deep snow by holding out his branches to catch all of it and sheilds them from the wind. I felt the book had a very good moral about taking care of youth and people younger than us. That moral is heavily shown throughout the book as the tree grows and looks after the younger trees. J.G.
