Rating: Summary: Detailed, yet simple descriptions of bible stories Review: I already own 3 preschooler bibles: The Rhyme Bible Storybook (Sattgast), The Preschoolers Bible (Beers) and the Beginner's Bible (Henley), and I love them all. I've already read each several times to my 5 year old son, and though he shows no sign of being sick of it, I want to find yet a new one, and I find My First Bible in my local library.
Since I am an "experienced kid bible reader", I expect nothing special from this new one, but I am pleasantly surprised. The illustration is tolerable, as you can see on the front cover, but the content is fantastic. With 480 pages, it goes in careful detail in many of the important stories, such as, for example, the preparation and building of the Solomon Temple, something none of the other bibles are able to achieve. It is always easy to give more detail; the hard part is to put it in such a way that a kindergartener can understand it, but this book achieves that goal.
For example, the author manages to stuff in a paraphrased version of Psalms 23 by saying that David is watching his sheep, playing the harp and making up the psalm when his brother comes running, saying that Samuel wants to see him, after which he is anointed to be king. (I upload that page for your reference in the customer images above.) There are many such clever ways of making the Bible coherent for the little ones. Since this bible provides extra information, my son seems to be particularly interested. Like all baby bibles, there is an illustration on every page, which is crucial for my son who loves pictures.
I am so impressed with it that I am now ordering a copy from Amazon.
