Rating: Summary: Dreams can come true! Review: "But WANTING and BEING are two different things. Dex lived on dreams until one day, after crawling out from under Cleevis yet again, he decided there had to be more to life than gazing at the underside of a cat. There had to be more to him. If he could be a hero, he would!"
I LOVE this book! The illustrations are wonderful, colorful, and fun. The message is that if we work hard, we can often become who we want to be. That the journey is part of the process and we can learn from the journey. Lessons that we can ALL learn, not just children. Get this book if you want to laugh, but also if you want your child (or yourself!) to be inspired by Dexter's resolve and inner-strength to improve himself. A winner!
Rating: Summary: SuperDog saves the day! Review: Dexter is a little dog with big dreams! He dreams of being a super hero and always being able to help those in need. He trains himself to be the best SuperDog ever. His fellow dog and cat friends make fun of him and put him down. That is until one day the big bully, Cleevis, needs SuperDog's help. He's stuck in a tree and can't get down. Will SuperDog forgive him for his teasing and help him down? Read SuperDog: The Heart of A hero to find out!
This book has great pictures that help keep the readers attention as the story is being read aloud. The illustrator has even some hidden items in the book: cats, rabbits, and Tyrannosaurus Rex's for kids to find in the pictures.
I would recommed this book to kids ages 4-8. There is an important lesson to be learned from this story. The lesson is little guys can to big things too, as long as their heart is in the right place!
Rating: Summary: Superdog Rocks!!! Review: I absolutely love this book!!! I first saw this book in a bookstore, and I had to buy it! I am a substitute teacher and I take this book with me to every classroom. The kids absolutely love it!! It is a very funny book that has a great message.....Never give up on your dreams! I would recommend this book to anyone who has kids, works with kids, or just enjoys a funny book!
Rating: Summary: True heros are made... Review: It is so refreshing to have a role model who is an unlikely hero,(a dauchound) works hard, does kind acts, succeeds and keeps us giggling. Although there are so many lessons in this book, it is a joy to read. My six year old laughed out loud in the book store. Then both of us giggled while recanting the story to my eight year old. The illustrations are bright and fun. Three cheers for Superdog!
Rating: Summary: Great Message and Well Presented Review: This book is adorable, it conveys a message that everyone can be a community hero by taking the initiative to do simple things to improve their community. The little dachshund who is the main character has to overcome the skepticism of the other animals in the neighborhood, but because he is undaunted he inspires his community and earns their respect. What better message for young children?
Rating: Summary: SuperBook for emerging readers! Review: This book is just right for emerging readers; the text is action-packed, illustrations exciting and fun, and the story is easy-to-relate-to. Superdog (aka weenie dog Dexter at the beginning of the book) gets tired of being bullied by the other dogs and even a smart-alecky tomcat named Cleevis. Through determination and hard work, Dexter goes on a body-building mission that results in a (hilarious) new physique and bolstered confidence. Laced with wonderful similes (e.g., Dexter "looked like a plump sausage sitting on four little meatballs") and comic-book action, the book would make a splendid read-aloud for younger elementary classrooms. The author makes some wonderful points, beyond the central theme of "you can do anything you put your mind to": the good deeds Superdog does aren't big-time things, but small ways he worked to make the world a better place. Older students might be encouraged to write their own "Walter Mitty"/Superdog tale as part of a creative writing exercise, using this book as inspiration. Classroom applications aside, it's a great read-alone or bedtime read, partly because there's pictures hidden within the pictures, typical of Mark Buehner's other playful illustrations.
Rating: Summary: Heart, Mind & Body Review: We first got this book from the library, and I just ordered our own copy. My son and I both love it. His kindergarten class and media teacher loved it too. Little Dexter has big dreams which he realizes through learning as much as he can and exercising his body to be fit enough for the "superhero" he becomes (despite teasing from his friends and a tomcat who ends up becoming his partner). It is not at all preachy. It provides a terrific role model for keeping a good heart and working hard to realize your dreams. The illustrations are engaging, too.
