Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: Carly, a young girl that lives in rural Missouri, is involved in many problems at the setting of this book. her friendship with long time best friends Alicia and Randi is falling apart and she is assigned to interview Dustin Groat, of the Groat family that has been known to the town for starting trouble. She starts interviewing with very little success. then with a little research and eavesdropping, she learns about Dustin's past and understands why his life is so hard. This is one of the best young adult novels that I have read. It is obvious that Vicki Grove is very talented writer and I'd love to see a sequel to this fabulous novel. Everybody can compare to these realistic characters, and that will make your reading even more enjoyable. A definite must read. Happy Reading!
Rating: Summary: reaching Dustin Review: I liked this book because it was a good story. Also, at the end, when you're really wanting the book to end up a certian way, it does in the very last paragraph. The only thing I didn't like was that it leaves you wondering what would've happened next and if everything turned out good. The worst part in this book was when Dustin acccidentally tripped Alicia in the gym because afterwards, everyone thought that he did it on purpose and wanted to hurt her when really; after she fell, Dustin had gone to get the nurse and that's why she showed up at the scene sonner. The other bad thing was that Dustin's frog got squished when Alicia fell. The author did a very good job describing Dustin. When you read, you could just picture how he was sitting, talking, the clothes he was wearing, and any other thing you can think of. She wasn't as good with the others as she was with Dusin though. The theme was very good too. When the main character is going through a sad or hard time, she makes you feel like you are him and are feeling those same emotions.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I LOVED this book. I have only read it once, but I'm always thinking about it. I realize now that you can't always judge a person by rumors... and what the person looks like. I just really consider this book as one of those books that gave me sort of a life lesson. I really appreciate this book... it's so well written and the charecters are so strong. I highly suggest this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Reaching Dustin Review: I thought that Reaching Dustin was an excellent book. Not only was it exciting and dramatic it had lots of detail and desciption. The author made an excellent role of Dustin. He is a shy character with lots of secrets. Carly is a well written character too. Vicki chooses an incident that happened in third grade as a reason for the way Dustin is. Things happen to both Dustin and Carly that even Vicki didn't know were going to happen. I'd tell you to read the book but it's up to you.
Rating: Summary: reaching Dustin Review: If you are one of those people who love to read books about kids who have problems, then Reaching Dustin is a pretty good book to read. It's about this boy named Dustin and he was a bully in school ever since he was a little kid and this girl, she knew Dustin, but she hates him and even everybody thinks he is a loser. This girl has a perfect life until she has to interview Dustin. She gets very nosey and suddenly gets interested about Dustin's life and tries to help him. Dustin's family are rebels, as you might say, and always get into trouble. This book is okay, but very interesting!! I hope anyone who reads this, enjoys it!
Rating: Summary: This book is a good book about a boy who has no self-esteem. Review: Many people cannot imagine what it is like to not have a family who loves you. Dustin is that type of a person. His mother dies and he has to learn to seek help and trust from a classmate who wants to help him. Dustin lives in a place that has cops swarming the place all the time. Carly has to do an interview on Dustin for class. She really doesn't like this situation, especially since her best friends switched so they could interview each other. Carly then learns that she has to put herself in someone else's shoes in order to understand how life could be worse. If you like to read, this is a young adult book is for you. After the very first chapter, you are absolutely hooked on this book. I enjoyed reading it because you don't know what might happen next. Read this book and you'll feel sorry for everyone you have either mistrusted or disliked.
Rating: Summary: A coming-of-age story like no other I have ever read! Review: The last thing on Carly Cameron's list of things to do was get to know Dustin Groat. To Carly and her classmates he is dirty, disgusting and just as appalling as his law-breaking, gun-toting family. However, thanks to an important interview assignment, she will come closer to Dustin then she ever thought... and the experience will prove to be one that will change her life forever. A timeless story of compassion and friendship, Reaching Dustin should be on everyone's reading list. It is truly a powerful and moving drama that over-swept me with its emotion and simple beauty. Written from the view of eleven-year-old Carly, Vicki Grove expertly and perfectly captured the sweet innocence of that tender age and I found myself reminiscent of those days. With believable characters and somewhat painful yet honest conflicts, Reaching Dustin is a coming-of-age story like no other I have ever read! It was definitely a privilege to read and it is my pleasure to recommend! (10/10)
