Rating: Summary: The World would be better if all children read this book Review: Housepainting pigs, Couscous the detective, Matilda? the kangaroo nurse, the pig that kisses the blarney stone and the brazilian boa that wrapped herself around a jet plane. I still sketch the bloated plane in quiet moments at work. Modern chidren's books seem lesser immitations. To be fair I have not read the newer books, but the illustrations are never in the same class as Scarry's and no book has such a wealth of stories and characters. Save the world, bring it back!
Rating: Summary: Bring back Busy Busy World!! Review: Now that my own copy from childhood has come apart at the spine, and both covers need to be reattached, I wish this book were available for sale at a retail-like price. This was my favorite book as a child, and it has become one of my children's favorites. We read it almost every night these days. If my parents hadn't saved it, it would have been lost to them. These are great stories, with wonderful funny illustrations (you have not lived until you've read Good Luck in Rome, complete with pasta-flying, gelato-spilling traffic chaos sound effects, to small children) and the book actually encourages an interest in other countries and cultures. What can we who love this treasure of children's literature do to get a campaign going to get this back on the shelves?
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Richard Scarry's Busy Busy World was one of my favorite books when I was little. My whole family loved it and we still quote it all the time. Favorite lines I used to repeat when I was little were "I am Taking You to Jail" "Klondike Kid and Tundra Pete are Back in town said Grubstake Moose" "Whrr Clop" "Oh How Beautifully Fatima Danced" and a few others. I highlited them in my copy. Back to basics, this magical book is about occupations of animal charachters from all over the globe. Children can learn wonderful things from the book. But it never has to seem like learning, that's part of the magic. As you read, you will probably feel like you are part of the book yourself. I felt that way too. I bought two copies of Busy, Busy World the last time it was in Print, and gave them as gifts to friends who were having children. I'd buy another million today. Please encourage the publisher to reprint it.--Robert Metz
