Review: If you like realistic books you wil like this book because there is alot of racism. The part is Mr. Andersen forced Big Ma to cut down her trees and Big Ma didn't want to cut down the trees but she did because they said that if David will have a accident. I recomment this book because you will learn about what happened when your Grandmother was alive.

Summary: An excellent book to ignite an interest in Black history.
Review: This is an excellent book to introduce Black history and literary techniques. The author paints vivid pictures of the scenery that are easily pictured in one's mind. She makes excellent use of similes and comparisons. When read aloud to children, they can easily draw pictures to illustrate the setting and the characters. It is an excellent springboard to discussion of Black history and American history during the Depression.
