Rating: Summary: Absolutely adorable Review: Great pictures and a wonderfully fun spin on the classic song.
Rating: Summary: Great for the young Review: I bought this book for my 15 month old daughter and she loves it!! I have to sing this book to her several time per day but I don't mind one bit. The pictures are great and hold her attention. I would also recommend "The Lady with the Alligator Purse" by the same author!!
Rating: Summary: Lou, Lou, we love this book! Review: If you are familiar with Nadine Bernard Westcott, then you probably know what to expect. Detailed drawings provide something new to discover and laugh about with each reading. A young boy is left by himself on the farm while his grandparents tell him to "Take care of the farm. We'll be back by two." First the flies get into the sugarbowl, the the cats make a mess with the buttermilk. After the pigs prove to be messy eaters in the parlor, things really start to get out of control. The sheep get into the bathtub (unzipping their wool suits first) and the cows try their hand at making pancakes in the kitchen. My daughter loves to locate all the pancakes, which one cow is merrily flipping up into the air with a pan. Although another cow stands ready to catch most of the pancakes, many more have landed on the clock, on the sink, over a door, scattered on the floor, etc. My daughter enjoys "reading" this book by herself. With all the detail in the drawings, save money on those "I Spy" books and buy this book instead. It's also hard not to get caught up in the silliness. We add to the song, imagining what hijinks other animals might be up to: "Monkeys in the bedroom, calling 'Yoo-hoo!', Elephants in the basement, painting it blue, Skip to My Lou, my darling!"
Rating: Summary: Who knew there was a longer version? Review: My one-and-a-half year old got this book as part of a package which includes The Lady With the Alligator Purse, Miss Mary Mack, and a cassette with singing on one side and music only on the other. She loves all three books, but this one and The Lady With the Alligator Purse in particular. My only complaint is that the music is on a cassette, not a CD, so I can't play it in my car (though I suppose that may be a blessing of sorts), and I can't skip a track easily. Also, I hadn't realized that this is a somewhat shortened version until I read another review at Amazon. I had also felt that it ends a bit abruptly, though my daughter isn't worried about this point in the least. Anyway, great fun for all.
Rating: Summary: be careful - may be wrong version Review: this is a great book, at least in it's original form. i first saw it in the doctor's office. our pediatrician says that it's his favorite kids' book. however, the 2 copies I received from amazon were a shorter version, only 24 pages. in this shorter version, the action ends abruptly with the house in a mess. in the real version (30 pages - the one that's advertised here) there is a final verse in which the animals hurriedly clean the house before the parents come home. make sure you get that one!

Rating: Summary: colorful, joyful telling Review: This is a great version of this classic song. A little boy is left in charge of his grandparents' farm and things begin to go wrong right away. The layout encourages singing along though it's not necessary -- you and your kids will still enjoy these funny and colorful watercolor animals as they joyfully misbehave. Fun, lively, colorful.

Rating: Summary: My children's (2 and 4 years) favorite book! Review: This is a wonderful book, fun for the whole family. Reading this book just won't do, we must sing it! Our 2 year old constantly asks for her "pig-in-a-parla" (Pigs in the parlor) book. Our four year old has memorized the entire book and is absolutely thrilled to "read" it to her classmates and everyone who visits; her interest in learning to read has increased dramatically since we bought this book. The illustrations are beautiful and engaging. You can't miss with this book - a wonderful gift for any young child.
