Summary: Pretzels by the Dozen by Angela Elwell Hunt
Review: This book is advertised as a counting book. When I read a counting book with kids I expect to read the text, then count the items in the picture. This illustrator did not read the text. For example. It says "3 open windows . . " There is 1 window. It says "8 bakers..." and there are 2. It says "12 pretzels . . upon a Christmas tree" and there are 5. I would not give this book even 1 star. It should be recalled.

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable story and great illustrations.
Review: Written by Angela Elwell Hunt for young readers ages 4 to 8, Pretzels By The Dozen: Truth And Inspiration With A Heart Shaped Twist is a wonderfully presented Christian picturebook all about the history of pretzels. Among its many fascinating anecdotes is the origin of the pretzel - the first pretzel was shaped by a monk, and the pretzel's three holes symbolize the holy Trinity of God. Pretzels By The Dozen combines short stories about pretzels among American colonists, how pretzel bakers once saved Vienna from invasion, and more with an underlying theme about the importance of loving Jesus Christ. Enhanced with beautiful illustrations by Bill Dodge, Pretzels By The Dozen is a thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended book for young readers.
