Summary: Altered for the worst.
Review: "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Junior Novelization" is quite a letdown. Although I am not within the targeted age bracket, I still can imagine how I would have reacted after reading this book: disappointed. Disney turned their famous ride into a fun movie, so one would think the junior novelization would have the same magic and humor. Wrong. Even though there was hardly anything offensive within the movie, the author cut scenes out. While one may think scenes were added, take a look at the "special features" on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" DVD, and you'll see where the extra dialogue and scenes came from. All of the memorable lines were deleted and substituted for others, which is disappointing. Nonetheless, you'll have pictures to look at while reading, so you can be reminded of the comical movie you've come to love. I do not recommend.

Summary: Oh, this could have been so good!
Review: I love love love LOVE the movie on which this book is based, but have to say that this is probably one of the worst books I have ever read in my entire life (and I've read a lot of books). Please, don't think me cruel! The plot is wonderful and the movie brilliant. But my problems with the book are as follows:
1) The writing is terrible. I realize that it is a junior novelization, but I never think that just because something is meant for kids that it is acceptable for it to be deficient in quality.
2) It was obviously written off of a very early draft of the script; there are several places in which it does not follow the movie's plot line.
3) There is at least one gaping plot hole that does not occur in the movie (not that the movie also does not have a gaping plot hole).
I realize that this is a poor review, and I'm terribly sorry for it! Believe me, I am as disappointed as you are. So my advice is: watch the movie, and enjoy it for itself. But this particular piece of literature does not merit your time.
I would really appreciate not getting any angry messages about this review! : ) Really. Heck, why not buy the book just for the movie stills?

Summary: Ended to fast
Review: If a book comes out before a movie, I always like reading the book first. When I saw this book, I just had to have it. It was REALLY good, and it has the lines in the trailer almost word for word. The only problem was that it ended too quick (I wanted to read more!). I started reading it at 10:00 p.m. and I finished it at 1:45 a.m. That's probably becuase I'm 14, though. It's meant for younger ages, but that doesn't really matter to me. I just read a book if it looks good. :-) I still recommend this book 100%. It had a lot of action in it. :-) Also, now I know what's gonna happen in the movie. :-D Once again, I recommend you buy it. BTW, I'm the first to review it! Yay! :-D

Summary: A Pirates Life for me!
Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Junior Novelization proves to be just as it is titled. I read this with wishes that an adult novelization would come out. The book is very simple and short with a lot of adventure and action, little dialog. The book has very little character development, basically you don't get any feel for any of the characters at all. I would say seeing the movie before reading this book makes it better since you can put the actors wonderful job to the book, but without it, it's very bland. Though I would bring this book home for the young one in the family who wanted to see the movie but was scared by the skeletons, this would be the perfect thing to calm their dissipointment until the movie is on video.

Summary: Okay
Review: The novilization was okay. It changed some things around and cut out some sceens (that kind of annoyed me). A couple of lines were added that were really funny, I wish I could've seen Johnny Depp say them. If you want to read it you mine as well buy it. (...) It a quick read but kind of funny.

Summary: Awesome
Review: This book was what gave me a taste for what I could expect from the movie. And this one little book brought about a strong obsession I still have for PotC nearly two years later.

If you haven't seen the movie yet and are unsure read this book and you'll definitely want to see the movie.

Summary: What is Disney thinking?
Review: What was Disney thinking? After releasing such a terrific movie, you'd think they would have someone spend a bit more time and care in writing the novilization. Admittedly this book is intended for young readers, but even young readers have good taste - and that's not what they'll get with this book.

The writing is stiff, unimaginative, and just plain boring. The characters are boring as well - one wonders why they even bother with the adventure.

Sad to say, this book is simply not worth while.

Summary: The Best Book/Movie EVER!!!
Review: When I first saw the trailers for the movie, I thought "Well, this sounds interesting, but Disney??" I saw the movie and it instantly became a new favorite. Then I rec'd the book. Words fail me. I recognize that it is a junior version of the story and therefore should be 'calmed down' from the movie version... but what age group was the author attempting to cater to? The writing was stiff, stilted, banal and uninteresting. Even if I had nothing to compare it against I would have had a difficult time yawning through it. Nothing captured the spirit of the movie, and the characters were all cardboard imitations. It's not worth the paper it was printed on.
