Summary: A Very Educational and Exciting Book
Review: Avi has written several classics, such as the Dimwood Forest Series and Don't You Know There's A War On. This book, Beyond The Western Sea Book One, is a credit to his writing. An exciting book, it also is educational and great for kids who like historical fiction. It is SO hard to find a writer like this these days!! Avi, in my book, will always be mentioned in the same category as Charles Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle. To me, this paints a picture that is so real and vivid. A very good book. I'd rate this ten stars if I could. A must-buy. One that the parents will love just as much.

Summary: Beyond the Western Sea
Review: Beyond the Western Sea: The Escape frome Home is one of AVIs greatest books. It starts out in a small village in Ireland at the O'Connells cottage. Their home is about to be tumbled by one of Lord Kirkles agents and good news comes when a local priest brings a letter and money from their father saying they could come to America. Just before they leave, their home is tumbled. Young Patrick, eleven, throws a rock at the agent. The agent chases Patrick, his older sister, Maura, and his mother away, and threatens to arrest them if they are not out of Ireland in two days. As soon as they are about to board the ship that will take them to England, Mrs. O'Connell flees, leaving Patrick and Marua to face the dangers of the sea.
Meanwhile, Sir Laurence Kirkle runs away from his unhappy home. He has stolen 1,000 pounds from his father. He is pursed by Mr. Clemspool and Mr. Pickler. Before he can do any thing, the money is stolen away from him by Mr. grout. He is captured by Mr. Clemspool and taken to Liverpool where he will catch a ship to America and never return.
As soon as Maura and Patrick reach Liverpool they are caught by the runner Ralph Toggs who coaxes them into a bad boarding house from which they may never escape. Toggs decides to get Maura to fall in love with him. Patrick tries to follow Toggs, but becomes hopelessly lost.
Laurence eventually escapes from Clemspool as soon as he realizes that Clemspool has betrayed him. Down on the docks of Liverpool, Laurence is found by Toggs. Toggs tries to get him to steal some money. He is nearly caught, but Patrick gets him out. He and Patrick befriend each other, and wander around for a while. After a narrow escape they agree to put Laurence on the ship as a stowaway. Read the book to see what happens. This book was great. If you like this read the sequl, Lord Kirkles Money.

Summary: Beyond the Western Sea: The Escape from Home
Review: Maura and Patrick O'Connell are Irish kids who must cope without their mother and make their long awaited escape from poverty to America, where their father is. Yet also planning to make this journey is Sir Laurence Kirkle, a young english Lord's son who's escaping from his mean brother, but keeps getting into trouble. Soon their lives meet and there's no telling what will happen next. I thought this book was enticing and complex. One of Avi's best.

Summary: An Adventure for all times
Review: This is a really great book. At first the book was a little slow, and boring, but it got SO GOOD! Now I want to read the next book. Basically, there is 2 stories of different people going on at once. Maura, Patrick O'Connel, and their mother are living alone while their father is living in America, trying to make money so that they can come live with him for a better life. They face a lot of challenging surprises as the reach their destination- America. With their mother refusing to leave their hometown, they are off on their own to reach their father. At the same time a young boy Sir Laurence Kirkle, son of a wealthy man, runs away to America because he is not happy with his life. With his father hiring people to find him and take him home, his older brother hires a man to make sure his brother stays away from home so he does not return home. Maura, Patrick, and Laurence all meet up and try to get to America, but do they?? You will have to read the next book to find out!!
