Rating: Summary: Informative, but maybe too graphic for young children Review: I am a big fan of all things "eyewitness." I love the format and the user-friendly approach, and the graphics are always great. This book is no exception. It is beautifully done. The only "concern" I have is that it may be a little hard to handle for children. I am a bit surprised that the recommended age for this book is apparently 7-9 (second through forth grades), because some of the pictures are so graphic that they even made me a little "queasy." The popular conception of the mummy is of a dead body completely covered in linen, as pictured on the cover of this book. But inside this book there are very graphic pictures of some mummies unwrapped with skulls and bones very visible. Though highly informative and beautifully done, I found this book somewhat disturbing in that sense. It's a little too graphic for me. In my opinion, the most interesting thing about this book is that it depicts Eva Peron as a "mummy." She was embalmed after she died. Biographical information is given on her, and I was impressed that the authors got it right (as Eva Peron is often buried under a lot of myths, half truths, and fabrications). They were also very kind in their description of her legacy and the affection of the Argentine people for her. A few pictures of Evita are in this book, including a shot of her in her coffin (again, a bit graphic [the coffin is actually open]). I give this book four stars for that reason: it might be a bit too graphic for younger children.
