Step into Reading Phonics First Steps, Set 1 (Phonics)

Summary: great first reader set
Review: I am teaching my 4 y.o. daughter to read and have bought several
sets of first readers including this set and BOB books. The Step
into Phonics set includes 8 small paperback books and a parents
gude which consists of hints on how to use the books. It is by no
means a total system for teaching your child to read but is meant
to supplement those efforts. The words utilized in the little books
are limited and graduate in difficulty as new consonants and short
vowel sounds are introduced.

BOB books offer more repetition and advance at a slower rate (there
are more of them). However, at least so far, those BOB books are
boring! My daughter just reads them and doesn't smile or laugh.
The step into phonics series books however are very entertaining in
terms of content. She just laughs and laughs when reading some
of these books. I can't help but marvel at the creativity the authors
utlilized in keeping the word usage simple and yet developing an
entertaining plot..

I highly recommend this series to those at home teaching their children to read. Also, the rest of this series in great. I bought several of the
Level 2 readers which involve science topics to read to my daughter.
She loves them and they are cleverly written. I also plan to buy level
one readers once she completes the phonics set.
