Rating: Summary: excellent book Review: As a kindergarten teacher, I have found several fun and practical uses for this enchanting, colorful story. Students learn about being friends, despite the vast differences between the bird and the lion. They learn about colors and where they are found in nature. Children love to guess what color the lion's tail will be next and to speculate on why it keeps changing colors. They love to paint their own pictures of the lion with his colorful tail. Each page is bright, vibrant and delightful. The Lion And the Little Red Bird has been a classroom favorite that my students have begged to hear again and again.
Rating: Summary: A truly beautiful, heartwarming book Review: I absolutely love this book. I teach drama and used this book to teach preschool aged children. We acted out the story and then they drew a mural based on the lion's paintings. The book made me cry the first time I read it. One of the sweetest books I've ever read
Rating: Summary: The Lion and the Little Red Bird Review: I loved reading this book to our Storytime group when I owned a bookstore. We made an elaborate felt board for the story which the children enjoyed almost as much as I did. Selling this book was truly a delight because we knew it would be loved and cherished as it provided hours of pleasure over time. I particularly liked the author's creation of two very different creatures who, although unable to communicate directly, appreciated and respected each other without regard to their differences. The visual beauty of the book, along with its artistic theme might encourage its "readers" to explore their creative impulses.
Rating: Summary: Add this to your list of favorite chrildren's books! Review: It is very difficult to find stories that appeal to both children and parents. This one appeals to both. The drawings follow the story, but have enough detail to spend 10 minutes exploring. My daughter loves to point out all of the animals and children in the pictures as I read the text. All the while, I am enjoying the sweet story. This has quickly become my child's favorite bed time story.
Rating: Summary: A beautifully illustrated tale about friendship Review: My daughters, ages 5 and 4, are enchanted by this book. They like to pore over the cheery, colorful illustrations and predict what color the lion's tail is going to be next. It makes them (and me) happy to see the lion and the little bird become such fast friends despite their differences--in size, in language, etc. This book is along the same lines as the author's wonderful "Paper Princess," but for a younger audience.
Rating: Summary: Utterly enchanting Review: This timeless tale could be called "why does the lion's tail change color"? The story has an almost Kipling-esque, timeless quality about it. The language is more simple than Kipling, but no less poetic and beautiful. And the illustrations are simply marvelous, detailed, and beautiful. This is one of my favorite picture books I have read to my children (ages 2 and 5).
